Super Mario Galaxy 2 HD or a brand-new Mario 3D this Friday?

This Friday’s Nintendo Direct is shaping up to be a massive one: a full 60 minutes long, which is much more than the usual 40. On top of that, it falls just before Mario’s 40th anniversary, and that has everyone speculating that the mustachioed plumber is about to steal the spotlight.

The strongest rumor right now is a Super Mario Galaxy 2 HD remaster for Switch 2, but there’s also talk of Super Mario Journey or an entirely new 3D Mario project. Honestly, any of those would blow my mind.

I’d personally love to see a fresh, big-budget 3D Mario adventure — something that pushes Switch 2’s power and sets a new standard like Odyssey did. But I wouldn’t complain at all if Galaxy 2 came back polished in HD.

What would you prefer as the big anniversary surprise?

I think Galaxy 2 would be more likely in a switch 2 edition of 3d all-stars, if they re-release that for the 40th. We’re long overdue a new 3D Mario game though, so I’d love to see that. Hopefully it’s one that was built with the S2 in mind unlike Bananza and MKW.

Isn’t Mario Sunshine going to be added to NSO soon? Does really make much sense to do that while bringing back 3D All Stars?

It should be a new 3D Mario. It’s been 8 years, man. That’s crazy.

But I’m nervous it’ll probably be Galaxy 2. With Yoshi appearing in the movie, I’m betting they’re viewing this as a perfect opportunity to remaster/upscale it.

    They aren’t mutually exclusive

My wish has always been a collection with 3D Land, Galaxy 2, and 64 DS analog controls.

For the new 3D Mario, Bananza could’ve taken its place, but I heard Koizumi didn’t work on it.
