It sounds unreasonable, but FF7 Intergrade was 100 GB on PC. It could have been worse 🙁

Game is massive. I don’t think people have a problem with game key cars when it’s a literal sizing issue.
Aria_Cadenza
When I saw the video, I was nearly sure it was going to be a game key card.
Esternaefil
Okay, but the alternative is no port. So, pick your poison I guess.

Does… the article writer think that installing a game is permanent? The last line certainly feels like that.
red_sutter
Game is like 90 gigs and wouldn’t fit on a normal cart anyway.
Wonder when sites are going to stop milking this key card thing for rage views…
Eggxcalibur
Game size is why I’ll pass. It’s available on a ton of systems, and I really don’t want to waste ~80GB on a single game when the storage is already not all that big to begin with.
driftking428
I will buy this game, play it for hours and love it. You can’t stop me!

Stupid question – Why not just buy it digitally if you dont want to support GKCs? Until Nintendo puts out a larger cart size (>64g) it’s the only real option other than the GKCs.

Final fantasy 7 having space issues on a Nintendo console… this.. feels farmilar

This is less relevant to the discussion on game collections and preservation and more to with file sizes and storage.
Unless publishers can put incomplete game files on 64GB physical cart and require a download patch. The only solution is for express sd cards to get bigger and cheaper fast. Like really fast, as it has to outpace more large games coming out *and* large games getting bigger themselves.
My_Name_is_Imaginary
I mean, do people expect getting 3-4 cartridges like the 90s?
Actually, I would be okay with that for nostalgia purposes.
Hawkuro
The game is and always has been too big to fit on the 64GB carts Nintendo has made available, and they’re selling it for only $40 and including a $7 MTG booster pack to boot with the physical package.
This is easily the best they could’ve feasibly done IDK WTF you people want.

we aren’t going back. you can get blue in the face on reddit all you want, but GKC are here to stay

People complain about the screen, but to me it’s fine. Where Nintendo messed up is in storage space, both on the system and with the carts.
Like you can’t market a device as something that plays advanced, AAA games and give it storage similar to a mobile phone. Mobile games are rarely even a gigabyte in size, but AAA games are often 100gbs.
I love my Switch 2 for many reasons, but having to pay extra to be able to store more than a couple large games is bad engineering, same as having physical carts that are expensive and only come in limited capacity.

Honestly, I feel like the Game Key Card discussion is exhausted now. Absolutely nothing in this article that hasn’t already been said ad nauseam.
There is no new discussion to have. Just search game card and join any of the numerous other threads and you can see the same discussion play out roughly 90% the same way.

Next COD warzone will be released on switch for a staggering 60 bucks and fill the entire switch 2 storage and also the SD card
trip6god
Nintendo knew this would happen yet still put 256gb in the console knowing damn well 1tb is barely enough for gaming now days. Then to make it so we can only use a certain very expensive micro sd doesn’t help either especially considering I can never find the cheap Walmart brand to hold me over for a cheaper 2tb one day since they sell out so quick around me
Last-Barracuda-6808
It’s funny this is actually more than what it is on PS5 which was 81GB. Imagine when Rebirth hits at 155GB xD. It will be bigger than peoples express SD or take up otherwise the game will take up over 60% of the internal storage oof
The_Invisible_Hand98
Multiple cartridges in the box like discs for the PS1 game.

When I installed FF7 Rebirth on my PC I had to uninstall the majority of my steam games because it wouldn’t fit otherwise.
Sempuukyaku
I don’t buy physical media, so doesn’t affect me.
I WILL say, that I hope starting this holiday season and beyond that we can get more companies in the ring creating 1TB microSD express cards so that the prices can come down. I have a 512gb right now so that’ll suffice, but it’d be great to get a 1TB at a reasonable price in the near future.
Gronkattack
I mean it was a massive game on PS4 and PS5 so don’t see why it wouldn’t on Switch 2. I’m sure the keycard is more again for that situation where the assets/engine don’t load fast enough from a cart. Wish they could have found a way to get similar speeds from a cart that they get from the new microsd cards.
psirockin123
Yeah, not a surprise. I don’t even like dealing with the 33GB Doom Eternal file size on Switch 1. I had to delete it the other day so I could take videos again. I can’t imagine dealing with multiple 100GB files for this series.
The S2 really should have had an option for either storage on a hard drive/ssd when in TV mode, which would come with a lot of problems, or the better solution would have been an accessable NVME SSD slot. You can get 1-2TB for $100-200 on Amazon vs. ~$70 for a micro sd express card.
For a portable console with such large games this should have been the solution but I think they would have considered this ‘too technical’ for the average buyers.
Maybe at some point this will happen. Games aren’t getting any smaller.
Cutiemuffin-gumbo
Welcome to the PS4/Xbox 1 era of gaming nintendo fans. The rest of consoles and PC have been dealing with these absurd file sizes for 11 years now.

Well no shit? This isn’t no Mario kart

Should I buy this game? I’ve only ever played first party Nintendo games but this one kinda interests me😭

Nope it won’t because I won’t get it.
