Not launching during a pandemic probably helps.

  2. bonchooski

This is a dumb as shit article, let’s compare a console release during a global pandemic to one that wasn’t

  3. MuptonBossman

I’m just glad that scalpers finally got fucked over for a change.

  4. ItsColorNotColour

absolutely nothing notable happened globally in 2020 so this is totally a fair comparison

  5. Damn its almost like there isn’t a chip shortage and a pandemic.

  6. Trender07

no pandemic and no games so whats the article here

  7. internetcats

Is it? Im on nintendo and Amazon’s wait list and have been since before launch. I’ve heard nothing. Should I just go to bestbuy or gamestop, or what?

  8. topplehat

Hmm gee I wonder what is different today versus 5 years ago.

  9. Paperdiego

Target in West Hollywood is empty and still has a sign saying 1 per customer.

  10. chewy92889

It’s not anywhere by me. I’m not looking to buy one yet, but I check the stock every time I’m at a store that should carry it.

  11. No pandemic, using a Samsung 8nm node that is in very low demand, probably helps tbh

Still a though logistical challenge not denying it but the comparison here is not really fair

  12. DjRipNickMcNasty

So basically everyone bought off of the hype and now everybody else is waiting till they actually release games they can’t already play on their consoles they already own

  13. gray_fox_jaeger

What a dumb comparison. 5 years ago was peak pandemic. Moronic comparison.

  14. lots if idiots in these comments saying stock is high because demand is low

ignoring the data that this is one of the best selling console launches ever.

idk maybe they were just well prepared and didnt have to deal with supply shortage?? couldnt be that no way

  15. Aromatic_Ad_6152

Wow, it’s almost like it didn’t launch during a global pandemic!

  16. Yup, saw some availability on a busy target, mid day. Very good for us gamers, scalpers can fuck right off

  17. CrazyDude10528

I certainly would hope consoles would be in stock 5 years after a global pandemic that caused a chip shortage.

Like it sucked that the PS5 and Series X wasn’t widely available back then, but given the circumstances, it was understandable.

  18. Lightmanone

    Not everywhere.

It’s very hard to get one in Japan. Still.

  19. ForeskinWhatskin

I mean, who can afford a new console these days? Everything is expensive. I don’t have as much time to play anyway becuase I have to work more to afford anything.

  20. Realistic_Oil7763

I wonder if and when they will increase the switch 2 price or remove Mario kart bundle. These tariffs have influenced series x and ps5 prices

  21. Production aside, I’m thinking that the current economy in the US and the fact that Switch 2 has like, 2 new games and a bunch of “Switch 2 versions” of games already on the Switch is maybe disuading people from buying. I can see sales going up around the holidays though

  22. I got the email from Amazon yesterday saying it’s finally available without a reservation/queue, so it looks like we are now past that initial hump of demand exceeding supply.

  23. Are we seriously blaming sony and microsoft for not keeping up production during the pandemic? This is some serious nintendo fan boy bullshit.

  24. Stocked everywhere despite the gigantic demand, genuinely crazy

  25. Not everywhere as in worldwide unfortunately. In their home country, people are still struggling to get a English/multi-language version of the console.

Scalpers and overseas version console run wild on the market, and people are buying them like cakes because it’s predicted by Nintendo themselves that the situation to continue until next year. It’s very frustrating tbh that they didn’t wish to supply well domestically since the beginning.

  26. Sounds like they’re underselling. Nintendo has only had enough stock of a console during the launch year in the Wii U era.

  27. ProbablyDizzy

Yep, just picked one up not even thirty minutes ago at my local GameStop after waiting a lil due to scalpers, didn’t even have to ask if it was in stock since I saw every GameStop in a ten mile radius of me had stock online. It’s so nice seeing scalpers get fucked in comparison to the OG switch launch.

  28. To be fair, they did that with the Wii U, too.

Not saying the Switch 2 is suffering/ will suffer the same fate, but I’m not seeing the same enthusiasm for the Switch 2 as I was seeing for the original Switch.

  29. seansurvives

Glad the scalpers got screwed. That being said I also think this is partly due to lack of demand.

Everyone who really wanted one got one. I’m sure other people will buy them as certain games come out but I can’t imagine another surge of sales unless the price drops.

  30. Saw 7 Switch 2’s on the shelf in Wal-mart this morning.

Glad to see scarcity, artificial or otherwise, has become a thing of the past.

  31. CrashandBashed

Launching when there isn’t a global pandemic going on does wonders for availability, who would of thought?

  32. CamperStacker

Don’t feel like it has any console mover games.

Mario kart world turned out to be ok but nothing spectacular.

Nintendo have not marketed DK well enough.

Console is a bit of a dust collector, ps5 was the same early in its life too.

  33. acidsplashedface

But where are the games!? It seems like aside from rereleasing a few titles, there’s not much in the way of new games in the pipeline for this months old console

  34. Impossible_Role1767

Here in Japan they’re not. Sold out in every store I’ve visited and not available on Amazon.

  35. Yeah Switch 2s are always in stock but the MKW bundles sure aren’t.

  36. They’re also not in the midst of a global supply chain shortage crisis either.

  37. dodgerfan4334

Too bad I’ll be buying hella expensive groceries instead.

  38. They didn’t launch during a global pandemic and supply chain crisis?

  39. Remote-Combination28

Is it because nobody I know even wants one?
When the switch came out, I was amazed how many people were scooping it up. The switch 2, I keep forgetting exists

  40. YamiPhoenix11

Its almost like Microsoft and Sony faced a shortage of materials… during a global pandemic and sillicone shortage.

  41. Altar_Quest_Fan

Literally walked into my local BestBuy a month ago and bought one, it was the afternoon too so not like I camped out front or anything. Just went there on a whim and bought one as an impulse buy. Kudos to Nintendo for actually having stock.

  42. MrMichaelJames

All that means is they over produced stock. Stock sitting on shelves isn’t making money it’s just sitting there collecting dust. It’s a fine line. Produce too much and you have too much product. Produce too little and you have people angry they can’t get the product. I’d rather have hype with short supply to drive up demand. Especially with a new product.

  43. gsnake007

Shit take by IGN as always. Forgot that the PS5 and Xbox series X came out during the pandemic and during a semiconductor shortage. Both of those aren’t a thing anymore so of course Nintendo is going to have stock. They didn’t at first because of scalpers but right now, if you go on any website and said hey I wanna buy a switch 2 right now. You can so that’s a fucking win right there! And still sell like hotcakes!

  44. What? Lmao you don’t say?? We’re years out of a pandemic and massive chip shortage DUH??? Who wrote this.

  45. allmyfrndsrheathens

We were in the midst of a pandemic and global chip shortage 5 years ago, the launches are not really comparable.

  46. Advaitanaut

    I don’t know a single person who’s buying one

  47. Ganondaddydorf

Well duh. That will happen when there isn’t a major shortage of a component.
