So, I did two Groudon raids back-to-back. Hosted the one on the blue gym via PokeGenie, but saw that a group was already there when I walked to it. Thought to myself that I could try to get both of them, the one on the yellow gym with the group that‘s there. Did the blue one, beat it, jumped out of the encounter, jumped in just in time for the one on the yellow gym (freshly hatched). Beat that one too, jumped back out of the encounter to get back to the one from the blue gym (didn‘t have much time left), but was presented with the option to rejoin the battle instead. When trying to go in battle, I immediately got kicked and got a message that I already fought in this raid, and the encounter was now lost on both (lucky not Shiny or good IVs, but still). Anybody else had that happen?

I know it’s possible to leave a raid and come back and catch it within a time limit, was it ever possible to beat a raid go beat a second raid and go back to catch the first raid?
You cannot do this. Beating another raid permanently abandons the encounter for the first one.
It has always been the case that defeating another raid prevents you from going back to a previous encounter
