anyone reading this, gonna share my game plan:
hydrapple isn't much relevant in the current meta it releases into, however: it is likely (but we don't know for sure) that we'll be able to get a dynamax applin down the line (in addition to gmax forms of flapple and appletun), which would catapult a possible dynamax hydrapple into the league of one of the best dynamax defensive options we have, with if being double resistant to electric, water and grass, while having decent stats for bulk.
saving up on those apples and candy, might be a smart play in the long run.
As appletun currently only has access to dragon tail, and not the (in dynamax) superior dragon breath, we don't know what fast moves hydrapple might have access to.

Couple hours on a couple lures got 800 candy. 20 sweet, 25 tart and 45 syrup. Drove around and got 40 wild applin encounters. Day 1 in the bag. Tomorrow is grind day. Easy peasy.
