A friend bought a cheap dock for his Switch 2 that stopped working after the latest update. The new update doesn't update the office Switch 2 dock, so I don't think Nintendo intentionally changed the protocol because the official dock would have updated. This is why you buy from a company that will support their product rather than a no name company. I'm waiting for a Switch 2 Covert dock myself.

A lot of people are saying to fully power cycle your Switch 2 after the update to get some of these working again.

Also of note that my 1st party dock also wouldnt initialize after updating (TV was saying there was no input signal detect). I tried undocking/docking the switch and the hdmi. Only thing that worked was rebooting the switch. Hope Nintendo didn’t end up actually bricking peoples docks with this update.

I have a similar one in the family room for when the kids want to play mario kart or something. I’ll have to try it out later. If it doesn’t work that’d be a bummer. I don’t like having to unhook the regular dock. And getting a second one is stupidly priced.
I think the intent here is more likely to stop people from bricking their hardware but it really underlines some bad decisions on their part as well. Maybe don’t use a standard usbc connector if using other standard usbc charging solutions is going to brick the system. Bad design.
One question: why?
Why can’t the S2 just work with other USB C docks like just about any other device out there? I have a display at work and one at home, and I have a dozen devices that plug into 2 USB C docks and all of them work flawlessly EXCEPT the S2.
It’s just a racket to get more money out of you.
Not that I love Nintendo or am defending them at all, but what is wrong with the dock that comes packaged with every new switch 2?
I finally got around to ordering a dock cable for travel, it arrived today. Plugged it in, happy it worked right out of the box. Launched a game, update alert, update, cable’s borked.

Can confirm my 2nd (3rd party) dock in our living room just stopped working as well right after today’s update. A full power cycle did not fix it for me. Quite a bummer as weve been enjoying it issue free for months
Anyone know if Killswitch dock adapter still working?
Nintendo’s not obligated to support unlicensed 3rd party docks, may be up to each individual manufacturers to push out a firmware update to fix whatever the new system update broke.
That said, there’s clearly a demand for a low profile fanless dongle, so maybe they should make one.
I still feel however any third party Switch 2 docks could potentially void the warranty as there’s a fan in the official dock for a reason. Yes it’s to cool the dock more than the Switch, but it does circulate air as well

It fascinates me that people keep buying cheap unlicensed third party things for Nintendo hardware when everyone knows that Nintendo has been pretty, shall we say, strict (to put it politely) when it comes to unlicensed stuff dating as far back as the GameCube days.
By no means am I justifying Nintendo’s dickishness (less polite this time!) but anyone buying unlicensed third party accessories should know by now they’re taking a major risk.

Nintendo is so weird about every move they make. Greedy to say the least. I thought my 3rd party switch dock was toasted.. I wondered if that new update was the cause… yep… I am fortunate and got my third-party doc off of Amazon for $11. What I don’t understand is they are so particular about stupid things like this dock. Yet you can use almost any controller with a USB connection with the switch. I don’t understand why they are so liberal about what kind of controller you use. I would think that would be a big deal to them. Look at PlayStation, there’s only a handful of PS5 controllers that will actually work without using adapters and what not. Also, PlayStation does not allow the use of any Bluetooth speaker. PlayStation will only let you use Sony Bluetooth speakers/headsets. So my real question is, why piss off your customers over petty things like a docking station, when you could just make it almost impossible to use anything, but their proprietary controllers, also pull the PlayStation move only proprietary headset and speakers.
