I dont think you can 2FA pokemon trainer club account

  2. @SiNisterFPS 3 months ago

Just don't use a pokemon trainer acount to log in, Link a google account which you can only log in with via a yubikey and password and make sure your trainer account is unlinked. That way the only way to log into your account is via google using your yubikey. Good luck hackers 🙂

2023 my phone got stolen, entire bag actually.. I sent niantic email in next 2hours they said they cant help I tried to contact them each them and nothing.. I even made a video showing all the proof (purchases and other receipts) and they still declined I guess if you lose it you can't get it back

Un-link PTC accounts and turn on 2FA.
Also, search to see if you've been part of a data breach because that info is sold online. Dont use a password close to data breach password, as there are bots that will attempt to crack the password. And yes, change passwords often.

This is messed up because Niantic retrieved pokemon for certain Youtubers but normal people, they magically cant return the account back to how it was on a previous day? Come on! they totally can, fix this persons account niantic

It should not be necessary to change your password constantly. Use a sensible password, at least 16 characters long and containing upper and lower case letters, numbers, and special characters. Make sure it is not a word that can be found in a dictionary. There is also a website (google haveibeenpwned) where you can check whether your email address AND your password have already appeared in one of the past leaks/hacks. If your email/password is there, you absolutely HAVE to change it. Something like “@^JvSQ#2zyecvVd~QFf~” would be good, and you should use a password manager such as KeePass or Bitwarden. Then you can use passwords like “wh~q~3Qz~N9g4&nSLWpF” without having to remember them. And generate a separate password for each site. Furthermore, 2FA Authenticator is also built in, which makes it more convenient to use on different devices. Nowadays, EVERYONE should use a password manager. The days of “I use the same but complex password everywhere” are long gone. You never know when and which major service will be leaked. This can lead to immense financial losses!

Defending a multi billion dollar corporation? Come off it. People deserve to have their accounts restored to a previous date when it was safe with all Pokemon and purchases complete. Hacking is not the users fault, you are victim shaming… properly lame.

There are Backups and Snapshots. They could restore the condition of the Account, like it was few days ago, just in 2 minutes. But they would have to do that for everybody, so they would need real people in the customer service and they like to spare on that topic. They don't care about the Playerbase. The only chance is, that we can make enough noise, that scopely hears us and will ensure that the Niantic Pokemon GO team has to change this in the future. Because they've invested a lot of money in it and would certainly be upset if it caused a big storm…

I’m not surprised they didn’t want to take it seriously. I got screwed out of a Grimmsnarl dynamax where the app closed at the end of the raid and never gave me the catch screen. Kept reporting and just got the AI bot response that I received the end of raid rewards(items) even though I never got a catch screen for Grimmsnarl. I had the screenshot of my journal. If I had gotten the catch screen for Grimmsnarl my journal would have displayed it as ran away, but it skipped the catch screen after the raid rewards screen. I even submitted a bug report in the hopes a human reviews it. Based on this I’ve decided to just stop spending $ on the game and go free to play. It’s bs they can’t have someone real investigate especially after I’ve been playing since day 1. 🖕

Glossing over that fleece's hacker publicly posted how they did it, as they did it and what they did… Both showing negligence on Niantic's side and that fleece wasn't involved in means of clicking a bad link or giving someone permission etc.. How often do you see that the hacker be sharing with the public that they took over someone's account specifically?

Most people who have their accounts taken over gave their credentials for some 'service' like "cheap coins". Some are from clicking links and not having MFA set up etc. The average person isn't targeted to just trash their pokemon account..

Also Fleece's account, to my understanding was never fully restored. There are parts that were broken and some pokemon that weren't likely restored. Which means it wasn't from a backup of some sort, they likely had to be re-created due to likely unique identifiers that avoid having two of the exact same existing between one or more accounts. A restore likely would be a bit of a roll back and I doubt they can do that on a single player level request..

Aside from even if they could, if anyone can request a restore you face the possibility that people may take more risks for these 'services' for leveling or cheap coins because if they get scammed "I will just ask for them to restore my account and claim I was hacked'.

We don't know what led up to the person in this case to have their account taken; can really only go by what they say but we know that people won't say "Hey, I went through a site that said it offers cheap coins and is completely safe and turns out it wasn't…"

I change my Pokemon go password account pretty frequently, and while not related to pokemon go I only ever been hacked once was on Playstation, I managed to get my account back and probably good thing I had no credit card info on it. Not sure how it happened either since I never account share or click on any links either and my password was impossible to guess. I also use different usernames for websites, sometimes the same username but not always as well as different emails.

It’s funny that they say they can’t return Pokémon that have been transferred to the Professor when they literally did it for FleeceKing. You either have a policy where no one can get their Pokémons back or everyone can. Only letting 1 person get them back is just not fair.

Good tip also is to take screenshots of platnium medal progression, conversations with niantic through support, anything that can help you recover if needed, also dont use PTC

I had my account hacked eventually got support to acknowledge it after trawling through every bit of help page possible they sent me a questionairre to fill out about my old account which I did and they came back and said they couldn't give me it back. They will not give normal people there accounts back they don't care full stop. Day 1 2016 account gone lost forever. Worst thing is u can see it active still as my son's account u can see me on his friends list showing online however many days ago it's really just a smack in the face that they won't help
