A lot of mysterious Pokémon, which may resemble variants of Kyurem, began appearing a year after the great ice age caused by Team Plasma across the Unova region. These Pokémon look very different from the regular Kyurem, sometimes even bordering on the grotesque, like imperfect copies of an already imperfect horror.
One of these variant, called Dredge Kyurem, seems to have adapted to marine life and appears to have established its lair in a crevasse in the open sea south of Castelia City. The presence of this Dredge Kyurem causes a massive drop in water temperature and the formation of icebergs, which have already sunk numerous cargo ships into the icy depths of the crevasse.
The second variant, known as Fog Kyurem, seems to tirelessly roam the Desert Resort, spreading a frozen, toxic fog from every pore of its skin, blocking out sunlight. It transforms the already infernal desert into a veritable toxic and sterile hell. Its mere presence threatens the entire ecosystem of the area, in addition to the surrounding human settlements.
The final variant known as Boreal Kyurem, whose form vaguely resembles ancient engravings of the legendary Pokémon Rayquaza, has been spotted floating grotesquely atop Twist Mountain. The area has been evacuated due to the plasma arcs emitted by the creature, capable of reducing even gigantic boulders to ash and pulverizing electronic devices. Since its appearance, it has been possible to see the Northern Lights at the mountain's summit. While this spectacle is magnificent, if the creature decides to move toward inhabited areas, the consequences could be catastrophic.
The origin of these variants is unclear. However, some strange characteristics can be observed compared to the original Kyurem. These include an exacerbated predatory instinct and hunger in the Dredge Kyurem, a wandering in the desert in search of something, perhaps a meaning to its toxic existence for the Fog Kyurem. And finally, an attempt at mimicry in the Boreal Kyurem, perhaps the futile attempt of an empty being to create its own identity. It's as if these variants are perhaps less empty inside than the original Kyurem…
