If everyone is just using Rotom Phones, are the professors just updating apps now?

I don’t think my mind will ever be changed that the Rotom Phones are a horrendous idea. The logic of a living Rotom aside. Do they make the Pokédex devices obsolete? Are the professors not distributing them anymore? Are the professors now just uploading data to a phone app?

If the answer is yes to all of that. That makes me extremely sad. My brain can’t process the idea of professor oak updating an app instead of a Pokédex. The Pokédex is such a core thing in the Pokemon universe. And they got rid of it…
