Pokemon

I officially have completed my first ever playthrough of FireRed, with a starter trinity run!

I decided to trade over the starters from LeafGreen in order to get all 3 starters for the region.

I see a lot of people that post on emulators and the like, which is awesome, but I threw 37 hours into original hardware and can say it was one of the better experiences I’ve had over the years.

I struggle greatly with depression, and playing this game brought me out of a funk I’ve been in for a long time.

It reminded me what it’s like to be a kid again.

Whether you’re 40 or 14, Pokemon is a beautiful experience.

I intend to play Legends ZA and the original Blue now that I have finally gotten the chance to do a personal playthrough (with some interesting names) as part of a foray into potentially making content.

Anyway, I’m just really content overall with the game and feel as though this is a treasure trove that I wish I’d discovered when I was younger. I was always more drawn to Sapphire (watching my cousin play it) and Diamond was my first game that I got when I was about 6 or 7.

Being able to revisit something that, even though I didn’t experience personally, is extremely nostalgic just really brought me back to better times.

It was really nice to be able to dissociate into the game for a bit.

Thank you for reading this if you do, and remember that no matter how old you become, the kid within you will always have its heart filled by picking up these old games and remembering what life was like before hustle and bustle and nine to fives.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk, I feel very lucky to be alive to experience this.

With love to all,

Chez
