So many essential games on my backlist…. This sounds like something I’d buy on sale in another year or so, but Nintendo never discount their main line franchises.
Waaaaay too much negativity around th desert hub. It’s literally there to let you traverse from one map to the next. It’s a loading screen minigame. It doesn’t need to be Breath of the Wild. lol
That 81 is complete bulllshit. This game is a 9 all day long.
You can tell the negative reviews are being swayed by online discourse. Igns review especially, takes special time to addres the stupid criticisms against a fuckin desert and an NPC character. These criticisms pushed by a fake online troll and bot camping against everything Nintendo.
The comments here are so bad I’ve left the subreddit. Come on folks, play the game before coming up with all these wild opinions (good and bad).
Why am I even saying this. I’m quitting Reddit next.
I was never a Prime fan. The first one was great but the following games weren’t nearly as fun for me. Metroidvanias work best as a side scroller for me. I’ll pick it up on OG Switch one day.
This is not bad.
I love cookie clicker games. Hopefully Nintendo will cater to me by making Metroid Prime 5 all about repeatedly tapping on Metroids that appear on my screen. Just let people enjoy things, guys!
Oh so the people who are mad at it thinking that’s going to be a bad game because something in the trailer were wrong nice.

Seems like the score spread is more preferance based than critical based. I don’t have an issue with a chatty companion.
I’m really surprised that a lot of people are disappointed by these reviews. The reviews are overwhelmingly very positive. It’s not getting bad reviews or even mixed reviews, it’s getting great reviews across the board.
I get that some people hoped that after all these years it would be a 10/10 masterpiece but I thought most fans had lowered expectations considering Retro hadn’t made an MP game in decades and this game was in development hell over the course of so many years and originally developed for the OG Switch. I was honestly afraid this game would be mediocre at best and am super relieved to see these reviews.
Any Metroid game with a chatty Cathy isn’t really a Metroid game. Sucks
DOes anyone know how it runs on switch 1? ive been seeing all these reviews for switch 2. nothing for switch 1. they did the same thing for pokemon z-a and we have seen how that runs on the switch.

So many mediocre games get an 80 meta score. It’s not really a good look factoring review inflation in. The millennial writing quips and hand holding is just… Yikes. I didn’t like prime 3 but this looks even worse
Ill get downvotwd to hell for this but i like that it deviates a little (not a lot) from the meteoid formula.
Meteoid games dont sell well and are too lonely and light in story so i welcome small adjustments

I’m surprised by the negativity here. 81 is a FANTASTIC score for a game that took decades to develop. A lot of these sound like smart, strategic quality-of-life improvements from Nintendo. Replacing open-ended exploration with a sidekick that tells you where to go helps remove one of the biggest barriers to new players: using inductive logic. Replacing the moody, creepy atmosphere of the original games with quippy, Marvel-style dialogue is a genius idea. Surely anyone disappointed with these changes is a hater. I say: Bravo, Nintendo!
Didn’t one of the previewers say you could mute dialogue? If so that should st least make Miles and the other companions you work with less annoying.

I think the reasons these reviewers are using to score this game are flawed in nature. Just because it isn’t Aliens from 1986 is because its Metroid Prime 4. I read some reasons it got the score it did, such as tedious and not having that isolated vibe. Those aren’t really good reasons. Games in general are tedious in nature. And Aliens wasn’t 100% isolated. And the game should be judged on its own merits.

TBH the scores are better than I expected. The way Nintendo has been barely marketing this game, troubled development and the previews had me worried it’d be a dumpster fire.
You know whats also at 81 on metacritic? Wukong, and that game is amazing
I guess prime 4 will forever be seen as bad like other m regardless of anything because of its first impressions because jesus are people wanting this to be bad since the previews.
Next big Metroid game needs to be open world
Notice how most of the lower reviews are from the websites that’s authors autofellate while writing their clickbait articles?
To me these scores look perfectly fine, the main problem being that the wait for the game was so long that it made people expect 10’s.
If this game took 3-4 years to come out people would make less of a fuss about it.
I’m still going to play and love this game, I can tell 🙂
