A few months ago, a large retailer for video games, toys, and tabletop games called Just Press Play in Lancaster, PA had an open call for submissions for artists to decorate the windows of their newest mega store. Three of my designs were chosen for the front entrance: a painting of Porygon, a painting of Gengar, and a vector illustration of LEGO astronauts!
The Gengar and Porygon paintings were two acrylic-based portraits I've completed earlier this year on large canvases. I achieved the abstract backgrounds by mixing acrylic paints with various chemical additives and then poured out of a cup onto the canvas, creating a swirled liquid effect. The reference model for my painting of Porygon was a Jakks Pacific figurine, and the reference model used for Gengar was an original Japanese toy from the 1990s.
