these past 2-3 i've been trying to design some fakemons since i wanted to train on creature/animal design since i struggle with drawing animals- so i said "yk pokemons are cool so why not"; decided to use Tibet as main inspo since one of my project has a lot of stuff isnpired by it so i also used this as an excuse to do more research i can use later for the project lol (which i did already for some stuff)
i'm not a meta person, so the types might not make sense balancing wise but i went thematics over all, they don't even have stats- if you want to write some for them in the comments fell free to do so lol, i wonder what vibes these guys bring to y'all!
overall it has been fun so far, now i want to design legendaries but i'll have to do more research before then bc i don't have too many ideas on what to do yet…
Ignore the clear changes in quality for these evolutions(i might clean them up later, but now?? it's almost 5am so imma refrain…), i did the starter trio 1st stages the same day, then today i did all the 2nd and 3rd stage evolutions in this order water>grass>fire
the final stage fire type is the only truly clean one bc the water and grass type i've draw pretty tiny and i'm biased with the fire type lol, tho i think i managed to replicate the rendering style pretty well with him???
some stuff i struggled with was designing the first stage of the fire type and the third phase of the grass type:
-fire starter was kinda rought bc i didn't want it to look like arcanine when the concepts was already similar, i knew it would've been different enough in the later stages but the first one gave me some struggles lol
-for the grass final stage i mainly struggled to implement the steel type organically, it looked like it didn't have enough metal to be steel type with the concept i had in mind but i couldn't add too much either; in the end u put some silver on the chest and "pants" but unlike with the other designs this was exclusively bc i needed more silver instead of having thematic reasons which is a bit of a bummer but i still like the design
i think i kinda figured out how to render in the syle but BUT some stuff i didn't understand fully was on how to render less organic stuff like shiny metals, water and fire; i did find some refs for the fire but i feel like it could look better as for the shiny metals didn't find a lot and for water i didn't find anything- i had to use water in a lake of pokemon scarlet i found on google to use as ref… so if y'all got any tips on that pls do share!!
this has been pretty long already but yeah, this was my experience, do you like em?? some ppl already told me what they'd pick but what's yours?? if you already said it, did it change now with the evos?? do they look like their typings?? do they look like pokemons at all?? any ideas for the names of the evolutions(and/or another name for shrubarn) ?? knowing is mainly tibet inspired can you guess any of the inspos i used??any feedback?? go crazy!! i'm curious to know y'all opinions
