So played Ultra Moon recently. Had a suprisingly really good time with it considering I stopped playing after gen 6 back then due to how dissapointed I was generally with mainline Pokemon as a whole.
I took my time with the game and was enjoying myself. The game had great atmosphere, it was challenging for sure (especially if you turn off exp share and use set mode) and I didn't grind if I got stuck. Treating it like a puzzle I had to overcome, and overcome I did. Even the dreaded Ultra Necrozma I managed to down in my second try, by getting the focus sash and getting lucky with paralyse RNG. Not resorting to any Illusion or toxic strats.
Like i really like USUM to the point i can proudly declare them the best 3d Pokemon games that Gamefreak ever did. Without any concept of nostalgia blinding me of its quality. It's a solid entry doing a lot of things right.
So I was recently surpised to hear about the common critic (not counting base Sun/Moon story being butchered) that the game is too handholdy. Which did suprise me. Watching some video's about it I'm even more suprise at some example, like in Gireum Red video "Why Pokémon Ultra Sun Ultra Moon Sucks" he was claiming how the game explaining the pokemon center facilites and how they fuction as handholdy. Or using the tutorials of Mantine surfing and Ultra wormhole riding as more examples of it, both new feature may I add.
So I'm really baffled about this whole claim, were explaining basic things to the player, who might be new to the whole series, as handholdy.
Which is why I ask? Are USUM too handholdy, or are experienced long time players just to impatient? Or is it me that is an outlier with the luxury of just having a good time?
I would be happy to have some example of those handholdy things USUM does, to better understand this whole thing I dont understand.
Thanks
