After years and thanks to the amazing work of u/FlamingoImportant675 who realized this incredible work of art finally an old concept of mine became real. I'm so happy on how they looks. If someone is interested tomorrow i'm gonna share the berserk evolution lore in the comments.
I’ll start by saying that I created this concept back when Pokémon X and Y were released, so you might notice some similarities with mechanics that appeared later in the official games. that’s just a coincidence. I’ve always tried to bring this idea to life myself, but I never managed to, and unfortunately I don’t have the time to dedicate to studying art properly. So, in the end, I decided to search for an artist.
Basically, I always felt that Mega Evolutions were somewhat incomplete, like something was missing, so I decided to take things further and created the berserk evolution. This form surpasses Mega Evolution in power (both stat boosts and abilities) and also changes one of the Pokémon’s moves into a new, stronger version of it. However, all of this comes at a cost. Since the berserk evolution represents a state of fury, it has specific conditions and drawbacks.
-
The Pokémon must have maximum affection and trust toward its trainer. If these are lacking, the Pokémon might end up attacking its own trainer or allies in a fit of rage.
-
The berserk evolution can only be maintained for 3 turns. After that, the Pokémon loses 2 stat levels in every stat for 2 turns before returning to normal.
-
During the berserk state, the Pokémon cannot use status moves only attacking ones.
-
Not every Pokémon of the same species can reach this state. It requires specific stats and natures.
But there are also upsides. It doesn’t use any held items since it’s entirely linked to the bond with its trainer (similar to Ash-Greninja) and can be activated multiple times during a battle but only once per Pokémon.
Now, let’s move on to the pokemons.
1) Blastoise
Berserk Blastoise gains the Steel type and literally becomes a self-propelled artillery unit. It loses some Speed but gains Special Attack and both defenses, turning into a fortified weapon. Its shell is covered with black metal plates. From the shell emerge three cannons (the large one from its Mega form plus the two original ones). Like the Mega, this form also develops smaller arm-mounted cannons made of the same material as the shell.
The lower legs develop retractable metallic spikes, which, along with its reinforced tail, allow the Pokémon to anchor itself to the ground during firing to resist recoil. The cannons are equipped with electronic sights connected to a visor-helmet covering the upper part of Blastoise’s head. The helmet is made of the same material as the shell and features a line-shaped digital display. His ability allows water and steel moves to always hit (even if the enemy uses protection). Hydrocannon becomes hydrobombing pow 180 destroy barriers (like brick break but also with protection) hit all the enemies. Lower user speed by 1 stage.
2) Mewtwo
I always thought Mewtwo’s Y form was already close to what I imagined for it, but I’d push it even further. Mewtwo reaches this form when it accepts its anger toward humanity and learns to master it to maximize its power.
Visually, it's based on Mega Mewtwo Y but change the white parts to black and the purple parts to red. Additionally, several psychic power crystals (like those from its Dark form in Pokkén) grow on its body. It remains pure Psychic type. Psystrike became psydisgregate. Pow 200. Ignore items and ability.
Ability: mind control: Pokémon is immune to dark, ghost and psychic type moves
3) Gengar
This entire project was born thanks to Gengar. Back then, I saw a fan-made Mega Evolution of Gengar (made by raizuw), and I instantly knew that’s exactly the kind of thing I wanted, something beyond the standard Mega.
Gengar, is based on that design, keeping the modified Gastly orbs that shackle it like prison balls, but remove the mask from the artwork and making Gengar look more like a shadow, as its species name suggests. Its type becomes Ghost/Dark. Shadow ball became shadow zone. Pow 150. Give enemy a new status problem: Terror: enemy Pokémon could make one of this action:
Doesn't attack (like paralyzed)
Attack itself (with the chosed move)
Attack ally(with the chosed move)
Return to the trainer
If the enemy Pokémon has defiant his attack rise and he is less probable that one of this effect happens
Ability: torment: on contact could lowers enemy speed by 2 stages or inflict terror
4) Charizard
Since Charizard already has two Mega forms, I thought it was obvious that these were actually two halves of its true form, which would be the union of both. This version keeps the leaner body shape of Mega Y, but takes the colors and fiery breath from Mega X. The head design becomes a fusion between X and Y. Its type becomes Fire/Dragon.
Blast burn becomes HellFlame pow 180: hits all the pokemons on the field. Has 50% chance of burning or 10% of critical burn (toxic but with burn effect, lowers also special attack).
Ability: blue flame: his fire attack ignores resistance and thick fat.
5) Dragonite
When I saw that “Mega Dragonite” concept, it really hurt, but anyway, moving on. Berserk Dragonite goes back to the color scheme of its earlier evolutionary forms. Its body becomes more streamlined, the wings grow much larger, and the tail ends in a pointed triangular tip (like a devil’s tail). The signature pearl from Dragonair returns on its chest, and its expression becomes more confident. It stays Dragon/Flying type.
Becomes faster and stronger than before.
Dragon claw becomes dragon's domain: pow 150 create new terrain (draco terrain) powers up dragon power moves and weakens ice and fairy moves. All status are deleted (also stat changes).
Ability: dragon skin multiscale+status condition immunity
6) Rhyperior
My Rhydon evolved into Rhyperior back in Gen IV. I’ve always thought Rhyperior was already close to a berserk form of Rhydon, but even here, we take it further. The Pokémon loses the rock type, replacing it with Steel, and enhances its digging capabilities.
Its arms develop blade-like structures that can close over its fists to form drills. Its tail turns into a massive spiked mace, and the drill on its snout becomes larger and more refined. The Pokémon’s rocky armor is replaced and reinforced with metallic plating, improving the protection and strengthening all the pointed parts of its body.
Earthquake becomes cataclysm: power 180 removes all terrains, cause sandstorm. 4x effective on rock, ground and steel
Ability: bunker: all moves damages are halved.
