was there ever any doubt?

People get frustrated over the Charizard overrepresentation (which to a degree I totally get), but its important to keep in mind that *they do it for a reason*.
Charizard’s popular. It always has been, literally since day 1. Its a great design, a great mon, and most people love it, so Gamefreak looks to please the masses. Its that simple.
GreatGojira
Charizard is a near perfect design of a Pokemon from is regular form to it’s megas or even dynamax. It’s also still kinda viable.
I will say Blastoise was always my favorite and go to gen 1 starter. Those shoulder cannons just gets me every time.
Puzzled-Addition5740
With charizard being this popular and its mega honestly being above average relative to most of the ones in Z-A? Yeah this is about as surprising as the sky being blue or a bird crapping on the sidewalk. Not my gen 1 starter of choice at all but always has been for a lot of people.
Celcius_87
But Mega Starmie is the coolest lol
Dogesneakers
Yeah this is me also

Hope they can take the hint and go back to more simplistic cool starter evolution designs for gen 10, then.

It does not hurt you get a free level 36 putting a code in.

Which is why we need Charizard Z
SaintMadeOfPlaster
Wait that is an actual render of Mega Starmie?? Looks like some sort of joke

Big Man Blastoise! Big Man Blastoise!

Ain’t no way!
My favorite was always Blastoise, NGL, but come on – Charizard is easily the most popular Pokemon ever, and not just because of the appearance and coolness factor, but Ash’s Charizard will also forever remain legendary
Worldly-Hospital5940
Charizard is so popular that child psychiatrists use it as a tool to help abused children process and treat the damage of their abuse.
fawse
Pretty sure Charizard has been the most popular Pokémon for the entire life of the franchise, so I’m not surprised. What I am genuinely surprised about is that we didn’t get a mega Charizard Z
Karonax
It probably doesn’t hurt the statistics that they gave a free Alpha Charizard to every player.

My favorite Pokemon!

Lame, Charizard is way over-used. I didn’t even use him back in the day in gen 1, I picked Squirtle. He’s my boy!
Loaf235
Mega Starmie being the 2nd most popular Mega is hilarious and means the designers did their job. They killed two birds with one stone by basically provoking discussion from people unfamiliar or dismissive of the media it’s based on, but also securing a major and sincere audience. Couple with the fact that it could very well be competitively strong and you have a recipe for a very successful ragebaiting mon.

Playing FireRed right now, and it’s both my starter (after evolving ofc) and my all-rounder main.

I will say that I am on the side that doesn’t really see the appeal of Charizard. Squirtle will always have my heart, but I totally can understand that people love it. But at the same time, I feel like it wouldn’t have been that hard to make X/Y versions of the other two original starters as well. More options allows for them to have more people who can love them. Simply choosing one singular Pokemon to receive all of the benefits and variations keeps the other Pokemon looking lackluster. Everyone has a favorite and they should cater to more than just the masses.

Charizard I chose you

Sorry…. what is that next to Charizard X?? A Starmie with longer legs?

It’s a great design and popular for a reason not just nostalgia. Personally, I’d love to see them move on from the current set of pokemon and start a new but that’ll never happen.
NoirSon
Pokemon fans do love themselves a powerful dragon looking creature that may or may not have the dragon typing but can use the moves
DanglyPants
Wrong game but there’s a reason why there’s 3 separate charizards in unite. It’s Timi and TPC quoting Mr. Krabs “I like money”. Charizard is the #1 most popular final evolution.
2ecStatic
Not the biggest Charizard fan but even I used it for a bit in the beginning, since they give you the Kanto starters for free and I already had Feraligatr. It helps that its mega stone was always available too.
TheAmazingJeckel
Wtf happened to Starmie?
Dracotoo
charizard die-hard haters can go crawl back into their holes till the next time he gets some new mechanic.
Derpykins666
I mean, let’s be real if you pulled a random and asked them what their favorite pokemon was, I feel like you’d get Charizard quite a lot. Reason I got red as a kid growing up. People just like cool dragons and that’s exactly what Charizard is, so I get it. We also ideologically compare the idea of Fire with Power a lot, so it combines a lot of these nebulous traits together and we get Charizard being really popular and ‘cool’.

Ah yes. The money dragon. Makes sense

Blastoise is better and always has been.

The very few and obnoxiously loud 3% of Pokémon fans:
“Omg! Charizard again? Why can’t they think about the rest of the fanbase for once!”
Literally the other 97%: “oh fuck yeah, charizard is here!”
They don’t cater to a very small portion of the fanbase that like obscure Pokémon because it makes them feel edgy and cool.

It’s the first game I can’t get myself to play and if it’s another charizard thing I’m out this one
