It feels like nowadays everything that isn't a mainline or TCG is just more mobile games, which I understand that from purely a business point, it's more profitable to make free mobile games with microtransaction than to make an entirely new video game for consoles which are inevitably going to sell less than even the worst selling mainline titles.
I like the spinoff titles like Pokepark, Rangers, Colosseum, Mystery Dungeon and even the Rumble games were fun romps in the world of Pokemon that were different from the usual mainline games where you're just a trainer.
You got to see what a world of only Pokemon looks like in Mystery Dungeon and Pokepark, a more seedy and grittier side of the Pokemon world on Colosseum, what life might be like to someone who isn't a trainer with the Ranger titles.
I like the different mangas they have that all have a unique twist on the Pokemon world, and aren't afraid to be a bit more… edgy, for a lack of a better term. It's almost refreshing to see a battle actually have stakes, or trainers utilising their Pokemons unique characteristics in battle to get the upper hand, or even get involved themselves rather than being relegated to just standing on the sidelines shouting dodge a few dozen or so times.
Even ReBurst is a fun read, while I'm not exactly expecting or demanding that human Pokemon fusion be a thing in the mainlines (aside from Ash Greninja, but that's different), it's just fun to have some Power Rangers type thing happening with Pokemon. Its story isn't deeper than what your usual Pokemon story's like, but for the sheer novelty and audacity to have a sexy cat lady is good enough for me.
They're weird, they're new, and they're something I wish we'd see more of from Pokemon instead of just new updates for mobile games that feel like any other mobile game but with a Pikachu slapped on the logo.
