Unless the task is something ridiculous, I'm never gonna complain about a new Pokemon being in Field Research. Field Research > a 12K egg. Field Research and Routes are free, maybe less accessible than a nest spawning right beside you, but not a money grab at all.
routes normally to small to get many spawns not a good way to farm spawns at all

Idk why people are so pressed about routes. Just do them passively and not try to grind them. You'll reach your goals eventually. You don't have to have a Complete Zygarde immediately.
Also, create short (0.5 km) routes close to your house, or in an area you usually play. This is totally an option, so what's the problem?
