Pokemon Go

Made a Quick Reference Guide for my Community – Want suggestions to improve!

There is one question that gets asked almost every day. "Which Pokemon should I Invest?" "What are the good mons" "I have all these rare candies, don't know what to do with them". "How can I defeat Giovanni?" . The obvious truth is that there is an overwhelming amount of different creatures in this creature collecting game and almost no indication of which ones are actually usefull. Which ones are good investments in the long term.

So I made a guide, as simple as possible to show my people what they should invest in. Best bang for your buck. Versatile stuff that can solve your problems. Invest in those and you should be able to do anything in the game. I followed some principles:

1 – Raid performance is the main priority, but is not everything. Most players want powerfull raid battlers. Thats the main focus. But with one point: No glass cannons. You gotta invest in something reliable, robust. That excludes a bunch of mons, but makes the more well rounded shine. One Rhyperior can do what three or four Rampardos can, in just a little more time. So I recommend Rhyperior, and not Rampardos. This is not a guide for hardcore players that want to solo legendary raids. This is for normal players that have limited dust and want to invest in something that will give value to their account.

2 – Beyond raids, performance against rockets/leaders/giovanni is great. You want the big, bad mons that can perform well against rockets. Your average player will do at most one raid per day, but three to half a dozen rocket battles, plus a leader. They need power houses that can get the job done.

3 – Most average players dont care about pvp. Great league, ultra league, they will never touch that. Investing in a mon with 0/15/15 Ivs may sound the reasonable thing to here in the subreddit, but sounds arcane for an average player. But Master League is different. They want to at least feel that they have the big tough guys to dip their toes in Open Master or Master Premier every once in a while. So, big, tough and dependable guys like Dragonite, Metagross, Gyarados are all in. Those are actually powerful mons that will also feel powerful in the hands of little timmy.

4 – I tried to recommend at least one non legendary of every type and all the strong legendaries/sub-legendaries/mythicals. Non legendaries are much easier to invest (except a few) and maxing legendaries are your long term goal. Gotta give them both.

Let’s explain my motives. This is the part that I want feedback. Want to know if everyone that should be here is here and if something is missing. Remember: this is for the mom that brings her kids to the park, to the old lady that plays everyday but don’t invest in mons because she doesn’t know. This is not for absurd min maxxers. I also don’t recommend investing in shadows.

Included – Non-Legendary – Your first Goals

1 – Gyarados. Strongest non legend water type stat wise. Very powerful against rockets and in pvp. Actually pretty decent in raids, even more in the mega form. Could be unstoppable with better pve moves.

2 – Lucario. The strongest Fighting type in the Mega form. Great moves, great versatility. Will get the job done.

3 – Magnezone. Actually the best non legendary Electric Type by a good margin. Good moves and great defensive typing. Needs a CD asap.

4 – Rhyperior. The best non legendary Rock Type, surpassed only by megas. Super bulky, great against rockets and pvp.

5 – Togekiss. Best non legend fairy. Great at everything. Amazing typing. A smiling tank.

6 – Excadrill. Best non legend ground type. Maybe best move combo in the game. Good at everything. Yes, he is a much more versatile and dependable ground type than the dragon shark. More on that soon.

7 – Volcarona. Strongest bug type of all. Super rare, long term goal. For now, kinda bad moves. Will become unstoppable if Fiery Dance is decent.

8 – Florges. – The strongest PVP non legendary. Amazing moves, very bulky, great at rockets. Versatile, this thing can do stuff.

9 – Primarina. The best water type raider with actual bulk. Great at pvp, very dependable.

10 – Ursaluna. A Tank made of fur and peat. Actual strongest normal type in the game. Plays great at many applications.

11 – Rillabom. Best non legendary grass type by far. Already great, will become a real player at Master League Premier with the right fast move.

12 – Skeledirge. Overall best non legend fire type. Maybe the best anti rocket mon in the game. Lacks a little more firepower for raids, but all stronger non legendary options are glass cannons.

13 – Annihilape. Though monkey with a broken move. Great at rockets and pvp. Will get the job done.

14 – Kingambit. Surreal stats, up there with pseudo legends. High potential for everything, can play in master league, can smash rockets. Just waiting for Kowton Kleave to shine in raids.

15 – Gholdengo. Collect those coins. Powerful raider, great typing, plays great in master league.

16 – Dragonite. The most well rounded non legendary. Can do everything. Not the best at anything, but always was and still is a good investment.

17 – Tyranitar. The strongest non legend dark type, even more in the mega form. Actually has play in pvp now with a better fast move.

18 – Salamence. A more aggressive Dragonite, being the strongest non legendary Flying type.

19 – Metagross. Absurd at pvp, great at raids. Kids know this one.

20 – Garchomp. Actually the strongest non legendary dragon type these days. Very powerful mega overshadowed only by legendaries.

21 – Haxorus. Powerful, versatile, very high damage, good moves. This one can go nuts in the right situation.

22 – Hydreigon. Strong, good moves and just as strong as Tyranitar in raids. Better in some situations. Just don’t have a mega.

23 – Goodra. Tanky like crazy. Spammy. Owns in pvp and rockets. Just don’t use for raids.

24 – Kommo-o. Big scary dragon with an absurd moveset. Clanging scales is kinda nonsense. As long as there are no fairies involved, this thing can dominate anything.

25 – Dragapult. Very rare for now, will become more common soon. Strongest non legendary ghost type and actually not that glassy. The typing helps a lot.

26 – Baxcalibur. Strongest non legendary ice type. They actually nerfed his stats! Very good, if not for the Kyurem fusions, this would be the best ice overall. The mega is coming…

Included – Legendaries and Mythicals – Long Term Goals

27 – Terrakion – Very good fighter with great moves. Can do double duty as a rock attacker. Will absolutely get your investment worthy.

28 – Keldeo – The strongest fighter in the game with that absurd Secret Sword. This one is a mythical, so will be very hard to max.

29 – Landorus – Very powerful ground type. Spammy and great at pvp and rockets. Much better than the other members of its family.

30 – Nihilego – Super powerful poison type for raids. This thing gets move CP than the likes of Ho-oh, Xerneas and Zygarde. If poison is necessary against something, this is your best bet.

31 – Kartana – Really crazy grass type damage. Maybe a little glassy. There was no way I would not include this thing here.

32 – Melmetal – Super good for rockets and decent for pvp and raids. The easiest mon to max in the game! Great return for the low investment.

33 – Zarude – Overall strongest grass type in the game. One per account, so, hard to max.

34 – Mewtwo – Strongest Psychic type in the game. The megas are coming.

35 – Lugia – Ultra bulky, great moves. Great performance for rockets and pvp. Almost a flying fortress.

36 – Ho-oh – The great equalizer for pvp, the only thing that can actually counter these dogs. Great for rockets!
37 – Kyogre – Strongest Water type in the game. Enough said.

38 – Groudon – The best raid mon in the game. Crazy how ground is better than everything else for attacking.

39 – Rayquaza – Strongest Flying type in the game and a very, very powerful dragon. Mega for goes nuts. Just don’t use for rockets or pvp, it’s kinda glassy.

40 – Palkia Origin – A dominant force in pvp, nearly unstopable without specific counters. Destroys rockets and is great for raids? What is not to love? The move not being available even with an elite tm.

41 – Dialga Origin. – Great at everything with a great typing. Very balanced and versatile. Just not as flashy.

42 – Giratina Origin. – This used to be the best mon in the game before all the power creep. Still very solid for raids, amazing for rockets and good for pvp.

43 – Reshiram – Strongest Fire type in the game.

44 – Zekrom – Strongest Electric type in the game. There are mons with higher damage. Glass cannons, all of them. This is the one that gets the job done in a consistent way.

45 – Kyurems – Strongest Ice types in the game. Good at everything. Feels almost like cheating.

46 – Xerneas – Big, scary deer. Strong fairy raider, scary at pvp. Has absurd potential.

47 – Yveltal – Strongest Dark type in the game outside of megas. Very robust, great moves for pvp.

48 – Zygarde – Crazy bulk and almost limitless potential. Just needs its legacy moves to dominate. It’s a matter of time.

49 – Solgaleo – Amazing stats, great mon pvp wise. Unique debuff combo can be a good anti meta force.

50 – Lunala – Same amazing stats, good moves. Great raider. Will own when she gets Moongeist Beam.

51 – Necrozmas. – The strongest Ghost type and very, very good Steel type. Good at everything. Those fusions are broken on purpose.

52 – Zacian – The Ultimate Lifeform.

53 – Zamazenta – Absurdly strong. Good at everything with a unique bonus: use it for every single max battle.

54 – Eternatus – The Strongest Dragon type. This is a great honor in such a typing.

Considered, but not included:

Alakazam – Strongest non legendary Psychic type. Super Glassy for a not very useful type.

Gengar.– Very good ghost type, amazing damage and the mega. Dies in the first charged move. Kids don’t like to invest their hard earned dust in a mon that dies to anything.

Moltres – Good flying type legend. There are better legends.

Scizor – Good, versatile bug. I feel that he is under powered in go. Maybe it’s the moves.

Sceptile – Great grass type with the mega. Super glassy.

Blaziken – Best fire type damage in raids, also great for fighting damage. Super glassy. Hardcore players that want to min max will use Reshiram or shadow heatran. Average players wont invest in something that dies quickly. As cool as Blaziken is, I don’t believe he has a niche. Maybe use only for the mega.

Gardevoir – Great fairy damage and a mega. Also dies very quickly. This is actually a mon for min maxxers, using the mega for fairy damage.

Roserade – Strongest non legendary poison type. Kinda power creeped. Poison is very limited in it’s applications. If you really need poison, invest in Nihilego.

Rampardos – King of glass. All that damage goes away in seconds.

Mamoswine – Very good mon, the one that came closest to make the list. Surpassed by Baxcalibur and made obsolete with Kyurem White. Remember that Bax will get a CD this year and a mega. Kids should focus on that.

Regigigas – Tremendous theoretical power. Is a joke pokemon. Does nothing in practice.

Conkeldurr – Very robust fighting type. Maybe should be included. It’s just that Lucario is so much flashier with those special moves and the mega evolution… Conkeldurr is boring in comparison.

Chandelure – Very high damage, fire and ghost. Is actually made of glass lore wise. Can’t recommend such a fragile thing.

Greninja. – Great water type damage. Dies instantly.

Diancie – The mega is amazing. Really. But only the mega, base Diancie does nothing. All the mons in the list are good even in the base form.

Toucannon – The best non legendary flying damage. Super glass cannon. Only if you have all the candy and dust to spare.

Vikavolt – Powerful bug, great damage. You wont be using him for anything.

Golisopod – Great stats, very high potential. Always gets a new move. Let’s see what the future holds.

Xurkitree – Amazing electric damage. Good stats. It’s just that Zekrom is that more powerful and better to invest than a regional ultra beast.

Blacephalon. – Highest fire damage in the game in raids. Super glassy and clunky. Don’t.

Regieleki – Kinda insane moveset for raids. Very glassy. Zekrom is just better overall.

Enamorus – Needs better moves and better defenses to compete. I believe the Therian form with Springtide Storm will make the list.

Glimmora – Still unreleased as of this post. Let’s see how it comes. Will probably be the best non legend poison type and a great rock type.

So, what do you think of this list? What is missing? What shouldn’t be there? Remember, the focus is no the absolute best for raids or anything like that. The focus is solid investments for average players. What will get the best bang for your buck.
