Using local communication, you can send and receive your special Miis and items.

Miis and items sent via local communication will not disappear from your island.

Miis and items received via local communication cannot be given to other people.

RIP. I don’t have the talent some people do with character creators, would’ve been nice to download pre-made Miis.

But this probably avoids a lot of copyright infringement issues for Nintendo.

I was really hoping they would allow for the same online features as Miitopia on switch or at least the QR code thing like in the original. That way if you weren’t good at mii making you had the option. This is disappointing. That was honestly the main thing I wanted.

My guess is that this is a move to prevent what happened with Animal Crossing New Horizons- where people used the game for marketing their brands. That, and they also probably don’t want people sharing Miis and things that are inappropriate- given that you can draw freely on Mii faces or clothes now.

Can see why they’re doing it I suppose but it’s a shame. I loved going through the creations others had made in miitopia and adding them to my game.

So youre telling me Im going to have to recreate Darth Vader and Obama by hand?

  6. Glory2Snowstar

Speaking as somebody who spent hours of their life making Miis in Miitopia: w h y ?

Getting to share my creations was half of the fun!

    Booooo!

That’s awful. I don’t wanna have to look up tutorials on how to make characters I want to live on my shitpost island.

  8. I wish they could at least make them shareable with friends. I get not wanting to do QR codes and mass sharing or whatever but it would be nice if I could ask my friends for miis of themselves or something vs making them myself.

Nintendo doing what Nintendo does best. Giving us a modern entry of a beloved classic, and gutting one of the best features of the original.

People are saying this is to deal with inappropriate stuff but this won’t really help that much considering there’s Google to allow you to see anyone’s creations and recreate them. Sure it’s more effort to make them but it really won’t stop anything all it’s doing is making those that are (if we are being honest) too lazy to do so not want to buy the game

Being $10 USD more than Miitopia switch and not having the online features, plus disabling sharing images and video to social media/switch app…

I get it’s $10 more because it’s a brand new game but missing big features from Miitopia switch makes the price so much more dumb. I think I’ll just wait for a sale or something

  12. they learned from the kirby airriders custom star sharing

  13. strangegoo

Whelp. That singehandedly ruined any interest I had. I was hoping for a huge gallery of Mii I could pick and choose from because 1. I’m not even remotely talented enough to even copy most of those Miis and 2. I’m lazy and having a big ol’ gallery would bring new ideas I wouldn’t imagine.

  14. Sorry_Soup_6558

That’s like the best part of the game.

I got to figure out how to get all 100 of my Miis, onto the switch 2.

Ugh that sucks. I’m so not creative when making miis

  16. BigGuy631

Lame as fuck, was really excited for this game until I found this out. Loved the previous Tomodachi Life, to me half the fun was finding other people’s custom miis and putting them on my island. Not sure I’ll even buy the new one now as I was hoping the Miitopia customization and sharing would make its way to this game.

  17. lostpretzels

That’s really bad. I understand Nintendo not wanting to host potentially nsfw content on their servers, but they won’t even let us generate or share codes? This is going to damage the game’s longevity for a large amount of people badly

  18. mjmannella

This really sucks, as it forces people to manually recreate Miis made by a friend. The only workaround I can think of is with Miitopia:

    1. Make a Mii in Miitopia.
    2. Enable sharing.
    3. Recieve Mii in Miitopia.
    4. Download the Mii to the system.
    5. Send the Mii to Tomodachi Life.
    6. Rework Mii to match the Miitopia one as best as possible.

Very expensive and clunky solution to an easily solvable problem.

I liked all of my Mii’s having completed profiles in the 3DS version or being able to edit them and not having to worry about someone locking the editing features. So this isn’t a big issue for me.

BRUH HOW ELSE AM I SUPPOSED TO EASILY CREATE A CANONICALLY ACCURATE MS PIGGY

  21. twelfthcapaldi

I’m not a creative person so for me this might be a dealbreaker. Sad because I was looking forward to this one!

  23. maidenhair_fern

Nintendo doesn’t want you enjoying the game you purchased in an unauthorized way.

  24. “We don’t want to deal with you all sending inappropriate Miis online make it yourselves.”

  25. birbdnerd

    Disappointed but not surprised.

With the levels of customization they added to this game the team probably figured it was too risky to have an open library of Miis for download, and the Switch itself doesn’t have a camera to allow QR code creation and scanning like on the 3DS.

I hope they consider adding a more limited Mii download feature post-launch, even if they don’t add face paint support or any of the super complex customization; or, at the very least, online transfers with friends would be nice.

  26. FedoraTheMike

NOBODY is gonna share their “how-to’s” are they

  27. Riversongbluebox

I still play on my 3Ds and sharing Mii was one of the best parts of the game. I am married to Hank Hill, Steve Harvey lives above me, and I have Mr. Bean working. Fun times that ended with older versions.
