Tar Muk from Prehistoric Times

Deinogastrian Pokémon are a group of very peculiar and yet poorly understood Pokémon. The group is mainly comprised of species which adapted to live in urbanized areas, and survive on waste. Their digestive system is seemingly able to extract nutrients from any substance, even toxic ones, however the side effect to this ability is the foul stench that makes them infamous among the vast majority of people. Some researches have proposed the idea that understanding their metabolism and biology could significantly advance medical science, and some studies are currently ongoing. However there are very few studies tackling their evolutionary history, and their placement in the phylogenetic Pokémon tree is currently a point of discussion. They have been tentatively classified as derived Protostome Pokémon (alongside Mollusk Pokémon and Jellyfish Pokémon), but new studies are needed to more clearly understand if this classification is valid or not.

The most widespread and notorious genus in this group is without a doubt Muk (Grimus sludgensis spp.), it should come to no surprise that a new extinct species of this genus has been discovered. Stuk (Grimus tarpitis) is a species of Poison-Type Pokémon that went extinct around 50,000 years ago which secreted a very poisonous and sticky substance used to trap prey and consume them fully. One peculiar aspect is the presence of organic structures made of bone material from their preys which covered parts of their bodies, these fake bones were probably used as defense, to interact with others of the same species (intraspecific fighting and mating), and to intimidate opponents. It is currently unknown if the space of the head piece was imitating a specific predator of the time or a generic shape, it is known to change slightly between individuals.

This is a super cool idea. But I feel like it should be part rock type or something.

I’ve had a similar idea for a Grimer evolution, but I gotta say, your name is much better.

  3. stuk is such a good name, do agree a rock type would go well on at least the evolution to make it more distinct from muk

I love the idea, but I would have it be that giving it a fossil is what makes it evolve. and depending on the fossil it has a differant thing, could either each have an ability, give it a second type, or just be visual forms.

  5. How is that human trash pre-dates tarpits?

    Super cool idea though!

Is Stuk’s design partly inspired by the Tar Blob from Monster Sanctuary by any chance? Can’t help but notice the similarity lol

Love the design but as others have pointed out, convergent/regional forms that don’t have a type change from the original feel lacking.

The thing is that your Stuk is made of tar and fossils which are very much related to the ground and rock types rather than poison. I would have said ground for tar but Tar Shot is Coalossal’s signature move and is rock type. Tyranitar, also in part named for tar, is also rock type – dark/rock, in fact, which is a unique typing which I believe would be very fitting for this line.

Cant say I expected something with hints of rock, ground, ghost, and even dragon in its design to be pure poison, that’s definitely a first.

Neat idea but feel the skull should be some sort of pachyderm pokemon or a sabre tooth pokemon because te tar pit was an ice age phenomenon and IIRC ice age animals were trapped in them.
