Hello everyone, I’m new to this group and I’d like to introduce myself as if this were an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, lol.
Here’s a short, completely unsolicited summary of my relationship with Pokémon: between 1999 and 2002 (2003?), during my elementary school years, I was absolutely obsessed (like my entire generation) with the video games, the anime, and the cards. Then I started getting my first chin hairs and began thinking about other things — total tabula rasa.
Cut to late 2025: millennial stress, insomnia, I start watching ASMR videos and, by chance, Pokémon-themed unboxings pop up. Not my cup of tea, but… I find them strangely relaxing. The following weekend I go to my parents’ house for lunch with my fiancee and head down to the basement to dig through some boxes. I come back home with my old Pokémon cartridges, the Game Boy, and a very old, dust-covered binder. Back when I started collecting, there was only the Kanto region and 151 Pokémon, and little-me’s mission was to complete an imaginary Pokédex with all the first-generation creatures.
I’m almost done, I swear.
I start flipping through the album and the nostalgic feels hit hard, and suddenly I get this unhealthy urge to finish what I had started. The result: the video you can see below (or above?), now just 8 cards away from completing my childhood album 😁
