My first time legitimately encountering a shiny was during a double battle with two geodudes. I was so terrified they were going to explode each other but I got the quick catch off before one detonated. Most stressful encounter to date for me.

I save my master balls for just such an occasion. I almost had to use one to catch a shiny Altaria that used Perish Song, but I got it with a luxury ball on the second to last turn.

I remember playing omega ruby in the car on a trip rock smashing stones on one of those mystery islands. I remember thinking you could find a genesect fossil doing so lol. Upon shaking one of the rocks I encountered a shiny graveler and managed to catch it. I had no clue how lucky I was that it did not explode.

Always hated that shiny Graveler was such an ugly color. Geodude is golden! I always played solo, so I could never get a shiny Golem. Just a poo-colored Graveler.

I once used the master ball on an electrode at the aqua hideout. It wasn’t shiny or anything, but the sensation of not letting it blow up was so good

Not exactly the same thing, but the first shiny I ever saw was a shiny Phanpy in the Safari Zone while playing original Ruby. It ran. I started to think I was shiny cursed after a while, because I didn’t catch a shiny until ZA. Hell, I hadn’t even SEEN a shiny between then and now. 20+ years of not even encountering a shiny.

I heard a story in a Platinum LP he was sitting next to his buddy in Mt. Coronet, encounters either a shiny geodude or graveler it explodes he keeps going… very next encounter *ANOTHER* shiny geodude or graveler which also went KABOOM.
