I don't know if you've noticed, but Hitmonlee's eyes underwent a redesign, both in video games, in anime and TCGs.
Personally, I prefer the more expressive classic ninja eyes from the anime of the 90's-2000s to the current simplified eyes that make him look like a generic zombie.
This change was imposed deliberately and went unnoticed; I don't understand how nobody has realized it.
