It once took me all of my ultraballs, great balls and pokeballs to try and catch a shiny zapados that showed up in my yard one time after dropping an incense and I had to let it flee because I refused to buy more pokeballs after so he fled. I’d say it wasn’t a waste since you didnt have to waste all of your resources catching it !

I mean, if you had only a few balls in your backpack you did a right thing.
As said, shiny galarian birds won’t flee but you can always run out of balls since they might take a LOT of them to finally catch them.
And tbh, masterball is kinda “useless” since it’s mostly up to you what you feel like you just have to catch, no matter what. For some, it could be something really trivial.
Sure, hundo legendaries from the raids are one thing as a last resort.

Shiny Galar birds have a 0% flee rate. That is to say it won’t flee no matter how many times you fail. So it might have been a mistake.

The only way to use it correctly is to give your phone to a young kid and turn your back, having them waste it on a duskull or something

Did you want it? Is it a fancy bird or something else tough to catch, regardless of flee rate? Was it fun and exciting? Then yeah, you did the right thing.

Would I use a masterball if it got dicey or I somehow ran out? Forsure.
