From the various leaks we’ve seen, it seems pretty clear that the games don’t have a huge budget, some might even call it small when you consider how massive Pokémon is as a franchise. That’s why I’m worried they might turn to AI generated art as a way to cut costs even further.
The only thing that makes me think they won't use it is that they'd be adding a new and controversial tool in an extremely crucial process that is creating the body and soul of the franchise.
I did some research myself but couldn’t find much. The only thing that caught my eye was a piece of promotional art for the Pokémon Astronomical Observatory, where the background looked a bit suspicious and the Observatory itself seemed oddly constructed.
That said, it’s a very minor exhibition, which honestly gives me some comfort. It makes me think this was more likely an isolated accident than a sign of a larger shift.
What do you think? Have we seen any real signs that they might use AI, or that they won’t?
