I Made A Felt Plush Pokémon: Gengar

Hello!

As I am sure many of you have seen on this sub, I have been working the past several months on a series of "realistic" Kanto Pokémon Sculptures. Well, I decided to take a brief hiatus to recharge my interest in clay as a medium to explore one of my other interests: Plush!

For a bit of context: I work as a toy designer in my day job, and design several plush toys a month for various brands such as the NBA and NHL. Though my knowledge has grown a great deal in this role, my primarily responsibility is the concepting of the designs, which a plush engineer then figures out how to construct in various fabrics.

To try to help expand my abilities in this field, I decided to take a crack as designing my own plush templates, and seeing as I am in a bit of a Pokémon frenzy in my other artist endeavors, I thought I'd add some plush 'mons to my collection!

Gengar here is the first I have attempted, which I FELT (pun intended) made sense, as he would require very few colors and has a very simple shape. While some of his threaded detailing could have been cleaner, as my first attempt at a hand crafted plush I am in no way disappointed.

While Gengar is not a part of this end goal, my intention was to sew my entire dream team of Pokemon (Swampert, Magneton, Altaria, Tentacruel, Slaking, and Typhlosion). I have two more "tests" to share on here before I start showing off the team, which include and Ampharos and Garchomp I made for my wife and brother respectively.

To help articulate the vision you may be forming of me as an insane person at a drafting table, I also wanted to note that I am sewing this entire project of felt Pokémon by hand with a needle and thread, so all the mistakes and wonkiness that will arise can me chalked up to my fumbling hands trying their best to learn this art form. This particular plush stands at 3" tall by 3" wide.

As you may have seen in my sculpture project, I like to give my Pokémon nicknames, and to start off this line of plush, I would like to formerly introduce you to my Gengar, "Sneaky Pete".

Thanks for checking out my work!
