For the longest time, the Pokémon Hypno (Drowsium hypnosium) has been an enigma for scientists. Its anatomy is extremely similar to that of human-like Pokémon such as Landorus (Landorus abundancii) and Grimmsnarl (Impidimpus bulkupis), but has no relation to these species (a similar case to Machamp (Machus superpoweris) who is currently classified as a Reptile Pokémon). According to genetic analysis this species is most closely related to Musharna (Munnus drowsii), with which it shares many biological and ethological characters. Both Musharna and Hypno are part of the Tapir Pokémon group, despite their massively different anatomy. It should be noted how Drowzee greatly resembles Musharna, unlike its ontological evolution.
Recently, new material for an already known extinct species called Bakuyma (Takus dreameatis) revealed some important information. This species has been identified as the same creature depicted in several cave paintings from several European regions, dating back to more than 200,000 years ago. In the paintings, Bakuyma are depicted eating dreams, a character found in both their modern descendants, possibly feeding off the chemicals produced by the body of both humans and Pokémon while dreaming. It is possible that they could also alter dreams to control the chemicals produced, and that they had the ability to induce a deeper state of sleep in their victims to feed undisturbed.
