Just want to share a story of how I fulfilled a childhood pokemon dream today.
When I was a kid I watched the Arcues and the Jewel of Life movie. I remember seeing notched-eared Pichu and immediately wanting to add it to my team.
Unfortunately by the time I got my copy of Soulsilver, the event had passed, and there was no legitimate way to obtain the Shiny Pichu in my copy of Pearl.
I became obsessed with trying to get this event, I researched online, I even borrowed a friend's Action Replay to try and cheat the event in. All I wanted was this Pichu.
Recently I saw a video on YouTube about how to spoof the event using fan made servers and tricking your DS into getting the old events. I initially brushed it off, because I had tried this after the Nintendo servers went down for good and it never worked for me.
But today it did!! I managed to get the event using an android hotspot, entering some manual DNS settings, and spamming the mystery gift option until it appeared.
I just want to thank those in the community who set up these fan made servers. 11 year old me finally got the Pokemon I dreamed about and could never have.
It feels weirdly fitting to obtain event pokemon like Celebi from this time, since it unlocks a time travelling event in HG/SS, and time travelling with your DS is the only way to see these events in game now.
