Using data from Bulbapedia), I make a graph tracking releases of new Pokémon both in the main series and in Pokémon GO.
For the last few years, Niantic has been consistently releasing new Pokémon at a rate of ~55 species/year. If we assume that Niantic maintains this release schedule and the newly announced Pokémon Winds and Waves are releasing Holiday 2027 (not confirmed, but fits with previous releases of new generations), then Pokémon GO will have run out of new Pokémon to release around the end of the summer in 2027.
Do I think this is likely to happen? No. But it'll be interesting to see if the release schedule for new mons in GO slows down, or if Winds & Waves drops earlier in the year, say June instead of November.
A couple of notes:
- This only counts new species, not forms/shiny releases.
- Scarlet & Violet released on 11/18, so I just used that date as an estimate for Winds & Waves. We currently do not have a confirmed release date beyond just "2027".
