I assumed it’s a Metroidvania, because of the vania.

Best news ever. I don’t hate rogue games at all, but I did NOT want this to be rogue.

  3. Caciulacdlac

Will it be enhanced for Switch 2 though?

  4. Why did anyone ever assume it was going to be anything other than a Meteroidvania style game?

So the new castlevania game will be a castlevania game? Modern gamers in shambles, the remake gremlins will never recover from this

  6. Zangetsukaiba

    Nobody thought it was a roguelike/lite game…

    Thank fuck.

Roguelikes can be done well (Hades and Hades II in particular) but they’re so tiresome to me for the most part. I love me a good vania though.

So it’s not a search-action game?! Devastating news.

Aww I’m disappointed. I was totally hoping for procedural generation and an overly elongated game play style where I am forced to start every run from level 1 with a temporary buff because the devs don’t wanna work to hard. /s

(I say this with sarcasm because I don’t mind some rogue-likes/-lites, but this style is way too overused at this point).

  10. As much as I’m a sucker for roguelikes/lites, I don’t understand why people assumed Castlevania would go rogue.

  11. It is nice to see a return to form, i think a roguelike castlevania can work, and a living castle that constantly changes layout is almost begging for a roguelike. The first game in a revival year isn’t the time to experiment however. They also said they had many projects running, I can see a Harmoney of Despair type roguelike being one of those.

    It’s a side-scroller alright, but it’s definitely not a 2D game…

I swear it’s like people don’t understand the words they use.

Someone should come up with a term for these kind of games. Castlevania and Metroid type stuff. Maybe a Castleroid?

  14. CommunicationTime265

Good. Not into the rogue shit and certainly don’t want Castlevania to be that way.

IM SO HYPED FOR THIS GAME

its been so long since a new Castlevania game came around

Well, I know what I’ll be playing this Christmas

  17. Great news. Still don’t like the art style. Wish it went with the classic Japanese animated gothic horror they’ve really leaned into since Rondo.

  18. ReadingTheRealms

Thank goodness. Not everything needs -rogue appended to its ass

  19. WorkingCautious1270

I suppose people think this because the game is being from the same devs as dead cells? From the trailer along I didn’t get that impression.

  20. MHarrisGGG

I don’t know why anyone seemed to think otherwise.

  21. McGuffin182

I’m here for it. Look forward to hopefully play it on a Switch 2 cart.

  22. grimydude

I’ve always been confused on if it was roguelike or roguelite, now I’m even more confused. wtf is the difference

  23. SparklyPelican

Didn’t looked as one to me, but I get it this might need a clarification since the team made like 3 roguelikes in the past years.

  24. Available-Low-2428

I’m in the minority who would prefer a more linear style game

  25. skeletank22

I mean….it was pretty obvious from the reveal trailer that this was the case…

The real question is if it will have any sort of interesting rpg-like subsystem like the GBA/DS CV’s had? My fear is that it won’t and will just be something akin to that recent 2D Prince of Persia game (Lost Crown?).
