Particularly from earlier seasons — not the sloppy lazy mess of the returns and captures in the newer animes where the messy blue or red light appears or splashes over the Pokemon like a blanket of blobby mess.
I know that sounds very nitpicky, but the pokeball animations always intrigued me as a child.
I remember rewinding Pokemon the first movie and early anime several times as a kid and watching the Gyrados and other Pokemon being enveloped in the red light and disappearing within the light while briefly retaining their shape and then distorting into a beam of red light that returns into the pokeball
Also whenever they would be thrown out of their pokeballs they would appear in a similar way out of a beam of luminescent white light which was so satisfying to watch
(black and white anime was like the last anime season to do this right, hence the snivy gif reference)
And especially when a Pokemon is captured in the anime and the beam envelops them and swallows them up
I think PLA did the best job at the pokeball animations so far and I think the main line games should use the same and improve it further!
In the mainline games Pokemon just sort of pop out instantly from their pokeballs which isn’t satisfying
I get that it is added animation for a game and they try to avoid as much as they can, but the little things just add a special touch that I believe shouldn’t be left out
It adds a fun feel just imagining sending out the ray of red light from your character’s pokeball in the game when returning your Pokemon in front of you or having them gloriously appear from their pokeballs
