I want to start a small discussion on what others think of what I call the Pollution Trio which is comprised of the Grimer, Koffing, and Trubbish lines.
What do y’all think about these guys, do y’all think they convey their anti-pollution message well, and do y’all ever think about them or even like them?

Literally my favorite Pokémon.
oh yeah good ol kum
I think 90 percent of the pokemon after gen 3 are hot garbage lol
I think galarian weezing does it best honestly
Muk and alolan muk especially are pokemon I really like! I think they’re one of the cases where seeing them in motion makes them look way more interesting because I love how goopy and dripping their animations are as well as how the colors can be seen rippling down from alolan muk at times. They’re pretty simple in terms of getting the pollution message across though since at their core they are just sludge piles, but I love them nonetheless.
The weezings are admittedly a bit more of a miss for me because they look eternally unpleasant and even almost tumorous without really feeling intimidating either like muk or garbodor does, though they do get the pollution message across pretty well because of how unpleasant they look. Galarian weezing I will admit actually has some really clever design with the top hats being smokestacks as well but it’s a case of it just not being my thing.
Garbodor isn’t one I’m a huge fan of, though not because it’s “literally just garbage.” If anything, I don’t think its body looks like garbage enough! The brown stuff overflowing from it feels more like soil or sand and the pink and blue bits don’t particularly look like trash either. I like the idea that the gmax swallows up buildings and vehicles, but I’ve never been a huge fan of those buildings and vehicles very explicitly being toys, since it feels like it undermines the pokemon’s actual scale. I like the concept of the message that pollution, at its biggest and most dangerous, will swallow up entire buildings and vehicles, but all the objects being toys feels like it again undermines that message as well!
I feel like varoom was a missed opportunity to make this a quartet. They could’ve made it pure poison, but with Steelworker like dhelmise 🙂
Now we need a recycled Pokémon, maybe a water bottle or something 👀
i love muk cos he was my first pokemon card and if they were real he would be my buddy
Freakin’ love wheezing. Was fun to use in the games and has some anime nostalgia. I enjoy the contrast between it and the jovial-looking Koffing.
Muk is pretty cool too. Grimer is boring Muk.
I feel like Garbodor is too abstract. It doesn’t look like a pile of junk so much as a weird concrete blob with colourful pebbles (rebar and pipes being the only detailed elements doesn’t help this). Trubbish is pretty good though.
Isn’t noise also a pollution? So I’m thinking Exploud should be included 🤔
Muk and grimer have been two of my favorites since I was a kid. I pulled enough of each of them in the cards I got to fill a page of my binder and for some reason became obsessed with them lol. Have plushies for both.
After I grew old enough to learn ‘oh yeah this is definitely a pokemon about pollution’ it just made me love them more since I thought it was cool messaging to have in a game. When sun and moon came out I was so excited that they got an alternate form.
In general I think yeah the anti-polution message is conveyed pretty well. Not all of them are as immediately obvious (looking at you muk/grimer) but just having them in the first place is really cool.
I’ve used both Alolan and Kantonian Muk in playthroughs. Pretty versatile.
Garbodir always bugged me because it gas higher physical attacj than special, yet is one of the few Poison types that can never get Poison Jab. Literally why? It’s covered in sharp bits!
