I am not understanding the hate for Prime 4. Maybe someone tell me when it’s supposed to start being one of the worst games ever made so I don’t miss it.

  2. Other M isn’t a bad game*.

*If you play on mute and get up and use the bathroom during any cutscenes/attempts at story. The gameplay is fun enough.

Federation Force is not a bad game*.

*If you accept this isn’t a metroid game, the closest metroid game it comes to is Prime Hunters, and you want to play a co-op shooter with friends. The gameplay is fun enough as long as this doesn’t come out during some massive franchise drought so people get angry that it’s not a mainline title and refuse to accept anything different. The gameplay, with friends, can be fun.

Unfortunately, these are fairly major asterisks and do ruin these games for most people.

I loved Prime 4, and so do a whole lot of other folks. Most who’ve played it give it a 8/10. Hardly a colossal failure.

The MP4 hyperbole has reached unsustainable levels. Wtf is wrong with Metroid fans…

  5. DoodleBuggering

You’re also skipping Samus Returns remake, which was basically the warm up for Dread.

  6. Technically neither was Nintendo made. Dread was made by Mercury Steam, and Prime 4 was made by Retro Studios

  7. Metroid Dread was fantastic. Last game I 100% completed organically.

  8. PreferenceGold5167

Metroid dread was made by sakamoto and mercury steam

Metroid prime by tanabe and retro studios

They are basically entirely different series with no creative overlap

I am jealous of you. If *Metroid Prime 4* is the worst modern gen game you’ve played, then you must survive on a diet of pure bangers.

    > Metroid Prime 4 is one of the worst and most soulless modern generation games I have ever played

Lol well now I want to know what games you play.

  11. Metroid Dread was an exceptional game. Brilliantly designed. Samus Returns was also amazing. Metroid Prime 4 unfortunately, was not that interesting. Story was abysmal to say the least. So many weird gameplay choices made it a chore.

Damn, Samus Returns was great as well before Dread. Wasn’t all slop.

I also think Metroid Prime 4 is awesome, so to each their own!

Metroid Dread is my favorite metroid game, followed closely by Super. However, I don’t understand the hate for Prime 4.

Opinions aside, they were made by 2 completely different developers, and neither one in-house by Nintendo.

  14. Metroid Prime 4 is pretty good (just beat it today) but yeah Dread is better no doubt

  15. Ragebait_Destroyer

dread was 10/10 for me. About to start mp4

  16. I guess that’s your opinion. Dread is good no doubt but it’s not without its flaws. I also agree it’s the best Metroid game we’ve had in 20 years, but that’s not hard when we’ve had like 5 or 6 and half of those are mediocre.

Prime 4 is still absolutely an above average game and still fun, if not a mediocre Metroidvania with some baffling design decisions. It’s a 7/10 at worse, but probably closer to an 8 and still great fun. I also would only give Dread a 9, there isnt that big of a difference between the two tbh.

Even thinking of comparing Prime 4 with FF and OM is just crazy talk. It’s more in line with Samus Returns in that it’s still a good game compared to any other franchise, but just annoyingly middling Metroid game.

  17. Sentinel10

Yeah sorry but this pretty much is rage baiting.

    MP4 is a good game.

  18. Not a diamond in the rough, it was cut and polished so much there is not a single edge to it. It’s just a fraction of the material that was removed to make it a smooth pebble.

  19. Still convinced that people are overly influenced by weird people. And cannot think for themselves.

Thinking about all the weird made up controversies about Expedition 33 for instance. Someone tried to tell me that they got sued by “someone woke” for being “overly white.” Despite searching high and low, I could only find one article about a lawsuit involving hiring. And the reason the person was not interviewed was because they had not submitted a resume, they just showed up at the office.

Told the person who then said the one he mentioned must not have gone through, and when I pointed out there would still be references to it SOMEWHERE online he had some weird excuse…

But that person would always parrot weird superficial criticisms (usually about how wokeness ruined a lot of companies) and could never really clarify about any of anything.

I disagree. I haven’t played Prime 4 or Federation Force. But I loved Other M, and I thought Dread was alright.

To me, Dread felt like it was made by fans of Metroid, who thought they knew how to make a Metroid game, but fell short.

  21. CorrectWaltz4147

How small is your sample size of games? Chill with the hyperbole, kid.

  22. BCProgramming

I thought Prime 4 was “OK”. If somebody was “waiting” for it for 18 years, I could see them being rather disappointed. It doesn’t like, reimagine the entire genre for example. It’s main issue is replacing interconnected regions with the desert. It probably takes just as long to travel between a lot of areas in Prime 1, for example, but it’s just more interesting because you are having to interact with the environment as you travel whereas in Prime 4 it’s a commute.

I always thought ‘influencer’ was a weird term for what online personalities do but posts like this one certainly make me wonder if perhaps the term is more effective than I realized. People watch a Video Essay by somebody with a screenname like BilboGoatBuff69 or some shit and think they actually got smarter from doing so, then figure out clever ways of basically regurgitating that influencer’s opinion.

  23. MarvelManiac45213

I don’t like Prime 4 very much either. In fact I think it’s incredibly mid 6/10 (not terrible but not good either). But it’s FAR from one of the worst modern games ever made or whatever. Hell there are other recent Nintendo games worse than it.

  24. rendumguy

Oh yeah, the other comments mention this ignores Samus Returns, which had a positive reception and was so different from the original that it was functionally a new game.

  25. Standard_Menu_7147

Dread went back to its roots and copied the original and SNES versions which are classics. That’s why it’s so good.
