Gold and Silver helped because you could hatch an egg at level 5 and have a good early version of which you wanted to start yourself with. You just had to get to the first Pokemon Center and save. Give yourself a team, or even items to get started quickly. Especially TMs.
I remember a few teams so I could train them through the whole game again. I did a Team Rocket themed run starting with Meowth, Ekans, Koffing, and I forget the other 3 to match (Bellsprout and Lickitung?)
Other times just Pokemon I wanted to level and raise to fight in the Stadium Cups and such.
Surely others did this exact thing, what were some memories of it?

Not really, the missingno glitch let me dupe rare candies and rare tms. I only really missed out on the other starters.
Not really. I never thought of doing that.
I do realize you can do that now, but also have multiple methods of giving myself whatever Pokémon I want.
I did it on the original Stadium, was such a cool feature! Ended up with a team of six Mewtwos thanks to the storage in the lab, was the only way I managed to clear the gym leader castle
