    except on Gyarados… those would be dorsal fins. because, you know. They’re fish.

    I think back in the early days of Pokémon they wanted to lean more into the “Monster” side of Pocket Monsters, and spikes and rough edges were one way of making some of the designs look more intimidating, stronger, more badass etc.
