I normally buy cards in poor – good conditions because I don't have a lot of money but love vintage. This one isn't really expensive so I figured why not spend a little more to get it in NM. It just arrived and the condition looks worse than a lot of "good" cards I've been buying, so now I'm wondering if that's the sellers mistake or if that's what I should expect with NM? Especially confused about the scratch on the front…
Bear with me, trying to learn if I have to adjust my expectations for NM!

Fuck no
maybe MP because of the scratch. or damaged i dunno. to me NM is no visible scratches and only one or two tiny dots of whitening. other than that i dont consider NM, maybe used/LP
I wouldn’t even call this excellent anymore. I’d say NM is 2 or 3 small white dots at most.
Nope
looks LP to me, not NM. did it not match the pictures?
personally if I was to be caring about condition I would only buy places with pictures. even if it was NM it might have had spots where you didn’t want them.
Card market has its own grading system. Use this to verify the grading of cards bought from there.
