Pokemon

Just bought my first Pokemon games in 20 years!

The last Pokemon game I played was Diamond.
Lately I've had an urge to play Pokemon again, so I copped these 2 games (I wanted a modern experience).

Which do you recommend I play first? I'm probably gonna go with Arceus because it's a new take on the franchise, but I'm curious what y'all think.

Also, I have a legit Manaphy that I got from a Pokemon Rangers store event back in the day… Is there any way I can transfer it (and all my other legendaries from old games) to my Switch?

I still have my Nintendo DS and both Diamond & Pearl in pristine condition.
It would be cool to have Pokemon I caught 20 years ago on my switch (hopefully it still keeps the date and location).

Go diamond first, otherwise I think it will feel like going backwards in tech, diamond will feel like what your nostalgia remembers the games being like.

  2. ThatBlackGuy_2525

id play BD first, otherwise you’ll never touch it 😭

  3. Pipe_Vato

I bought arceus this past weekend. Very entertaining for me and the fam !!!

  4. Ignore the people telling you to return BD. It’s a good game, but a lot of people are dissappointed because it could have been so much more. There’s a lot of bitterness in the community about that.

Having said that, the game is still fun as fuck!

    >missed BW1/2, XY, ORAS, and SM

    I’m so sorry…

  6. ShinaiYukona

I’m sorry for your loss (BD)

Jokes aside, the game will be fairly identical to what you played back in the day. It’s far truer to it than the other remakes were (FRLG, HGSS)

Like it’s actually the primary complaint because it lacks the QoL added from platinum (more fires) or other changes to complaints from that generation. We kinda expected the changes ORAS provided.

It drastically changed the underground too, which is probably the biggest change it included, which is both cool and unfortunate. Otherwise it’s more or less D/P in chibi and some solid bugs if you don’t update.

Arceus is a rather different game compared to mainlines, but I feel like it’s gonna be right up your with your ranger experience.

Arceus still has the best mobility and immersion for me. Love being able to roll, smoke bomb and over world catching

  8. Congrats! We are on very similar journeys right now haha. I just finished Black and I’m going through ORAS on my DS while playing BD and Arceus on the switch,. Also champions in between 😅

To answer your other question: you will need either a 3DS or 2DS with pokemon bank in order to move legacy pokemon up to the switch via pokemon home. What Nintendo hardware do you currently have?

If you don’t already have Pokemon bank installed on a device, or have previously downloaded it in the past and can restore your purchase via the eShop, then you’re going to have to mod your DS

As an OG Diamond player, BD/SP is just fine. The biggest gripe I have with it (not comparing it to Platinum) is it being on the Switch so it lacks the dual screen functions so the Poketech feels clunky, creating pokeball designs feel off, you can’t make poffins the traditional way and the mining in the underground isn’t as fun without a stylus.

Other than that, the game is decent.

BD hate is so forced. I picked up a copy and played it earlier this year. I had tons of fun! I’m getting legends of Arceus as soon as I start and finish a Pokemon violet run through

  11. GrayGentoo

As others have stated, start with BD. Since DP were your last games you’re gonna enjoy it since it’s very faithful to the originals (for better or worse lol).

I see that you’re part of the penguin gang as well 🐧🤝🐧

    Have fun!

  12. ZeroXNova

Both are fun. I’d probably play BD before Arceus if you haven’t played in 20 years, but it’s entirely your call.

To transfer from gen 4 to switch, you need a gen 5 game, a 3DS with Poketransfer and Pokémon Bank which can only be purchased on the 3DS eShop that doesnt exist anymore. Fear not for if you have a friend with all the required items, you can trade your Pokémon you wanna transfer to your friend and once on the Switch trade them back to you.

Aso for play order, since you played Diamond in the past, Legends Arceus is a prequel, so the events take place before the Sinnoh games. You can compare and contrast the region’s past to today. From there, when you play BDSP you can see the changes more fresh and modern while still feeling like a classic Pokémon game.

I did a Professor Oak Challenge on Arceus and it was my favorite Pokemon playthrough since Blue 30 years ago. That being said start with BD because it will be more like what you remember, and they you can evolve your play with what Arceus requires.

Eu tô quase fazendo isso , deve ser uma sensação muito boa

The gen 4 remakes get a lot of shit, but I like them. They may not be like the previous remakes where certain (new) features are included e.g. mega evolutions like in ORAS or a extended postgame, but I had fun playing Brilliant Diamond + I like that you can rebattle gym leaders where as in the original games. It’s only possible in Platinum & not in Diamond or Pearl.

  17. TheOmegaKid

I honestly really dont enjoy the new games nearly as much as the old ones. Mega evolutions, everything has the equivalent of exp share now plus theres just crap tonnes of really powerful pokemon thrown at you from the start. So id defo start with diamond. Having said that, i havent played arceus, but i have played sword and sheild and violet. Also just endless cutscenes you have to sit through. I juat want an old style game with a new set of pokemen and the 3d open world style graphics 😂

  18. Aaronspark777

For BDSP, make sure to utilize the underground. It’s going to be the only way to get fire Pokemon before post game.

  19. Shyzkunuwu

Have fun both are amazing (yes even the remake of Diamond)

  20. H0rnyFighter

You’ll love them both! Brilliant diamond represents the classic formula and legends arceus is a brand new take which worked amazing imo.

There is no definitive answer which you should play first. Just depends, do you want to experience the classic formula or try something new first?

  21. Kaenu_Reeves

One thing people are missing is that the games connect to each other, you get some exclusive rare pokemon if you download both

  22. ParasaurolophusZ

BDSP is an extremely traditional Pokemon experience. I liked it fine, but there was a lot of potential that could have been there after seeing improvements in games like ORAS.

On the other hand, Legends Arceus is a really experimental game focused around catching way more than battling. I think after seeing it and Legends ZA, we can tell the Legends games are going to be filling in lore and also function as testbeds for experimental new systems.

That said, I’d play BDSP first. Not only do you get a bonus for having a BDSP save file during late-game PLA, but BDSP is shorter (unless you really want to 100% it) while PLA has a lot more to do.

  23. Nickbronline

You picked one of the best and one of the worst games

  24. Kill_Welly

In order to transfer Pokemon forward, you’ll have to get access to a 3DS (or 2DS) with Pokemon Bank and Pokemon Transporter installed (neither of which are available anymore since the 3DS shop was shut down). You’ll also need access to a copy of Black or White 1 or 2. Using two DS-related systems (including said 3DS), you can transfer Pokemon from Diamond or Pearl to that Black or White game. Then, on the 3DS, you can transfer the Pokemon from Black or White 1 or 2 into Pokemon Bank with the Poke Transporter. Then, from Pokemon Bank, you can transfer to Pokemon Home; I don’t know if the Bank account will be locked to the original owner’s Home account, but if it is, they can then trade the Pokemon to you.

  25. LuckHart02

for nostalgia, pick brilliant diamond since your last game is diamond then go for legend arceus for different vibes. welcome back op trainer

  26. Adept-Competition-16

You’ll love the one on the left… The one on the right is…

  27. Snoo-83483

Don’t get too excited. (Me still playing the gb and Gba versions) 👍🤣

  28. jamescodesthings

Play legends, if you’re old like me, played red/yellow/gold back in the day; legends hit me like “damn, this is what I wish I had as a kid”.

The more classic-style gemes feel a bit watered down/hand holdy out the gate. Definitely enjoyable to play but I’ve put them on the backburner.

  29. Glum_Song_2028

The same two I bought after a decade off. Play diamond first. I’m still stuck on Cynthia 🙃

  30. tallesttom

Having lets go in your save files will get you a mew I believe in brilliant diamond!

  31. People bash the diamond pearl remakes for many good reasons but one thing is for certain. It’s still a bang good game with improved battle Ai during post game.
I personally was not happy how the handled the remakes but D/P was fun in ds and it’s enhanced switch version is just as fun.

  32. ANxMacSinx

Oof.. yall know fire red is lyk twenty bucks rite??

  33. destra1000

One incredible choice, and also another game
