About 10 months ago I posted my Blastoise artwork collection here.
That post turned into a full rabbit hole.
Since then I went all in on it – tracking down every single English Blastoise card, every known variation, and even the Japanese and Chinese artwork exclusives.
What surprised me the most was how deep the variations go, especially in Base Set alone (1st edition, shadowless, unlimited, 4th print, etc).
What started as just collecting the artwork turned into documenting print differences, holo variations, and grading examples across multiple eras.
This ended up being one of the most time-consuming and obsessive collecting projects I’ve ever done.

Figured I’d share the full result with people who would actually appreciate how deep this goes.
📝 NOTE: I recently came across a video, detailing out some overlooked variations, which have not been recognized yet by any grading company, but I managed to still grab the boxes they came in. If anyone has any information on cards being graded correctly for these, please let me know. The cards being:
– XY Base Set – Blastoise EX & M-Blastoise EX ("Sheen" Holo), belonging to the Mega Blastoise – Battle Arena Deck
– XY Base Set – Blastoise EX ("Water Web" Holo), part of the Blast 'Em All – Tin Box Promo in 2017
