Pokemon Trading Card Game

Pokemon Card show BANS sealed retail product – MORE OF THIS PLEASE!! 🙏

Just saw this on instagram. Local card show I go to decided to BAN all sealed product that is currently for sale at retail!!

My God please let this catch on, it's so sickening going to shows and seeing rows of vendors with sealed stuff they bought from Target

shout out Feel Good Gaming in Glen Burnie this is an amazing step towards combating the plague of scalpers in our hobby

They wont because of the money the sales generate, but if eBay did this I think you would readily be able to find Poke, One, and Sports cards on the shelves again retail.

Where do you draw the line? 151 pops up at Walmart every now and again, so no 151?

So odd seeing glen burnie mentioned anywhere outside the MD sub lol

Unless they unseal it in front of me I wouldn’t trust it.

My local store is doing their 2nd card show. Same rule applies. Personally I dont mind it. I sell singles so doesn’t affect me, but also I just hate scalper prices for something people could have bought in the shop if it wasn’t for the scalper.

Im glad I dont vending any more. Last time I did was when Silver Tempest released. I got product from wholesale distribution and sold msrp (booster boxes were going for $120 then). I know scalping is out of hand, but i can’t imagine having to deal with this as a “regular” seller either.

Our local card shop runs trade nights every other month. They dont allow sets released within the last year to be sold

They also rip all seals on anything sold at msrp so people cant resell it.

So they are doing only cards and slabs for Pokemon?

They’ll just hold onto product for a year or two and bring them to shows then, but I dig the sentiment.

Ok but what is currently for sale at retail ? Prismatic is no good but 151 is ?

While I 110% support this it won’t make even the smallest dent in resellers clearing shelves. There’s an endless number of avenues to move product. I do think card shows should be about cards and not sealed product though. I kind of feel like an exception for foreign product should be allowed, though I fully understand that being an unpopular opinion too

So I can’t find any at retail, and now there won’t be any slightly above retail at the shows?

I’d rather not resort to Facebook marketplace or eBay where I’ll be price gouged to the max.

Love this idea. It’s fun to buy a pack or two at a show but some of the tables at the one I go to seem to just be scalping new product. If I wanted to pay that much for Ascended Heroes I’d buy it online.

One of my card shows does nothing sealed within the last 5 years. I know is not the same, but its nice not to walk around and see things that were at target and Walmart just the other day.

It goes both ways, but I think it’s ultimately healthier that way. But that also means more sealed product. If the hobby goes that way, make sure you rip and grade as early as possible if you’re purely in it for selling (I’m not). That way you can sell while the pop is lower and won’t go up for quite some time until it falls out of print and the shelves and people start ripping again. Though if we all just let scalpers sit on product that long and not buy it for inflated prices on the back end, we could get rid of them for good.

I’m telling you slice the product at retail or for market without a slice.

It’s sad it’s taken 19 months for someone to say enough scalping retail products. But at least it’s more than Pokémon has ever done.

  18. marziilla

I believe they do this in card shops in japan. Very smart!!

  19. Dr_Pants7

I would support any show/con that did this near me in a heartbeat.

Only bans modern one-way. I guess it’s a start? Lolol

This is a good idea but consistent enforcement will be key. Also it doesn’t go far enough, people will just hoard a little longer.

The nuclear option is make it like sports tickets, it’s illegal to scalp them (a lot of places). Once it becomes something where you can get in trouble that shit will evaporate from conventions

I would say a vendor that perhaps has access to distribution who wants to sell at retail should be allowed. It’s nice to have the option

However, overall this is a great choice. Would like to see it implemented at the show I frequent

Give that show some business thats awesome. I had a similar thought last week. Ban the resale of sealed product in circulation. Won’t stop the scummy rippers but it’s a start .

Love this idea! Went to my first show this past weekend and the sealed scalpers really stood out and had a much worse vibe about them

Wish the local card shows at the malls by us would do that. Ours is always packed out and full of scalper prices on the most recent drops. This would help the market at card shows a tiny bit, but a little difference is better than no difference
