After seeing the Starfox Direct, the OoT remake seems even more likely. However, will it be on the scale of Starfox or do you think Nintendo is pulling out all the stops to make OoT a modern masterpiece?
I definitely don’t want it to stray too far from the original formula. If they make it like BotW I might have to pass.

I think they’ll probably expand it substantially to appeal to the modern open-air audience. I don’t imagine they’ll *actually* make it open-air or give you the ability to climb on everything, but I can see them adding more activities in Hyrule Field and bumping up the scale for all areas. Maybe adding more collectibles and gear as well. That’s what I’m hoping for, at least, plus full voice acting
Star Fox looks like a remaster, not a remake
Nintendo doesn’t do FF7 or RE Style remakes, they usually like to play things very close to the original. I’d expect for OoT to be very close to the original with maybe 1 or 2 small additions.
i’m guessing it’ll be mostly a faithful remake, maybe even just a graphical upscale
The problem with a 1:1 remake of OoT is how small and cramped the environments may feel if the visuals are modernized.
I think it works a bit better for Star Fox since its on rails.
An OoT Remake should, at the very least, expand the size of the towns and fields to make Hyrule feel grander. But the temples themselves can remain relatively unchanged.
I think they will go all out and do a full remake in the style of FFVII, as Nintendo should be aware that just improving graphics and framerate wouldn’t be enough. One of the best games ever deserves so much more than that. I’m also prepared to be disappointed tho.
I think it’ll fall somewhere along the lines of many of the Pokemon remakes (not you DS/SP) where the world and game mechanics get substantially modernized and additional content is added, but it doesn’t deviate from the source nearly as much as FF7
I think it’ll be the same scale. I think the goal will be to make it fundamentally the same game, accessible to today’s children, but distinctly OOT.
Maybe they could have variations on the dungeon designs, Classic Quest, Master Quest, New Quest, Easy Quest. Maybe they could sneak in a few new settlements and a few new side-quests. Maybe they squeeze a reference to the Downfall timeline into the ending. I think they’ll stray a little from the original from time to time, while keeping the scale and scope the same.
Honestly, I don’t think it would have the scale of FFVII Remake, might be a bit larger but I can’t see them devoting main entry level resources to a remake.
OoT is their Magnum Opus. they will play it safe, whatever that may look like.
It will be faithful like Star Fox and Mario RPG.
