I thought it would be easy as pie.
Yes i’ve heard about the stories of the woman and the garchomp but i thought it was just a massive skill issue. i mean FRLF, the only pokémon game i’ve beaten, was super easy. “It couldn’t be that much harder.”
I plowed through elite four with my Infernape, Starraptor, Bidoof, Leafeon, and Luxray. Super easy, a bit underleveled sure, but I was also underleveled for FRLF.
I went into Cynthia’s battle with confidence. I knew the main problem would be that Garchomp, so I brought my Gastrodon, Nneeo, just to deal with that chump.
She starts with Spirit Tomb and I lead out with Luxray. I wanted to Leer the Tomb but I misclicked and pressed Charge. We traded one hit, a shadow ball (i think), with a thunderbolt. She drew out her Tomb for her Ace, garchomp, so i threw i Gastrodon. Before I could blink, the Garchomp dragon rushed my poor baby to half health. I switched to Luxray to get intimate off, and it died to an earthquake. I switched back and was able to get an Ice beam off on the Garchomp. Then I stalled, Full Restore, Ice Beam, Repeat. The Garchomp then was in below half, perfect, Ice Beam should kill. Out of excitement I rushed through the attack Menu and pressed…
Sludge Bomb
The Garchomp took advantage and crit my full health Gastrodon. No worries, I have 30 revi- I used them all during the elite four battles… I only had 8 now, well 6. I switched to Bidoof to buy time and it got demolished. i switched in my Gastrodon, and it got crit AGAIN! Absurdity!
This cycle goes on of me sacking a pokémon to kill the garchomp until i only have gastrodon and luxray. Us two against Spirit tomb, lucario, and Milotic. luxray goes down and i only have one revive left. out of shame i start just randomly clicking, and i actually got lucky. Gastrodon’s Ice Beam froze the Milotic, if only I had that earlier. Luxray was able to finish the job, so I switched back in Gastrodon for the Lucario. Then it got crit… Then I was able to claw out of it, but I got greedy and didn’t stallheal, I went for the jugular thinking Luxray could tank, but one high roll aura sphere was the end for the GOAT
