Much like before, this post will be looking at how the games chnage around the world. The focus this time is on the 4th generation of main series titles.
This will be shorter than the previous ones, not much changes!
First let us look at the title screens. Like with past games, the wording on the title screens changes. It will either say [‘Press start’](https://imgur.com/U8CtMKQ) or [‘Push Start Button’](https://imgur.com/pN0OPzS). Why this changes I do not know, as it seems a rather strange change to make.
The major change in this generation is in the game corner. In the European and Korean titles of Pokemon Platinum, the game corner doesn’t allow the user to play any of the machines. These were removed due to the anti-gambling laws, and the PEGI restrictions in the regions. So while the Japanese and American titles can play the games, the rest get nothing! Strangely enough though, the PEGI rules hadn’t come into play during the release of Diamond and Pearl, so the game corner is available on the European titles of them games. I wonder how they handle this in the remakes? Perhaps it will be similar to Heart Gold and Soul Silver. On these games the machines were changed to be Voltorb Flip to avoid the gambling regulations.
Due to the machines not being playable in many regions, the NPC dialogue was also changed. For example one NPC says:
*When a Poke Ball appears, it’s a chance to line up slot marks. Replays and PIKACHU line up even if you don’t make an effort. But you need to aim for better marks, like Poke Balls and Moon Stones.* in the USA version. However in EU that same NPC will say: *I love Veilstone City because of the
department store and Game Corner. It seems like I’m always coming here! … But you know something? I always have so much fun that before I know it, it’s already night time! But my trusty Pokemon are with me so I’m not afraid of going home at night.*
Another example –
USA: *I’ve been winning a ton today.*
EU: *Today I’m feeling on top of the world!*
Every NPC in the place will have different dialogue.
Two sprite changes were also made across regions. The first, and most obvious is Registeel. [This is the Japanese sprite](https://imgur.com/szfK3qY). It looks a lot like a Nazi Salute. So it was changed [to this](https://imgur.com/nFQ1Zyk) for the rest of the world.
The second sprite is the Sage. [This is the sprite for everywhere but Korea](https://imgur.com/oRRb6Qu). It was changed for religious reason, the new one can be seen [here](https://imgur.com/2AWg1lg).
The final chnage to talk about is one that’s only in early copies of the Japanese version of Platinum. You could surf while in Aaron’s room of the Elite 4. Doing this would send you to the void. Saving while here would lock the game, forcing a restart of the save. Nintendo offered 2 ways to fix this. user could connect their DS to their Wii to download an update that would fix it. Alternatively they could send the cartridge to Nintendo for repair.
And that’s about it. There wasn’t really much changed between these titles, but I didn’t want to skip Gen 4!
