Nintendo

Almost 5 years ago, one of the most controversial Nintendo games in recent history was released: Metroid Prime Federation Force.

Metroid Prime Federation Force was released right around the 30th anniversary of the Metroid franchise, and hardly anyone even so much as gave it a chance. Since its reveal at [E3 2015](https://youtu.be/sGu3Xe1uUUg), ardent fans have demanded this game either bring back traditional Metroid elements or be cancelled completely. You almost had to see the outrage to believe it. This was not the return they wanted after Other M left such a sour taste in their mouths. In March 2016 [during a Nintendo Direct](https://youtu.be/m6k3SyXU97k), producer Kensuke Tanabe tried to justify the game’s existence, but to no avail. Keep in mind that this was also around the time that Paper Mario Color Splash was announced, which Tanabe also produced. Upon release, many outlets realized [it was actually an okay game](https://youtu.be/-wOkM6q2q-c) [and a decent side story](https://youtu.be/doICKWY6pIo), just not a great “Metroid” game. And in the end, not enough people cared enough to buy it; and so, the game was basically dead on arrival and quickly faded into obscurity. At least 2017 and onwards were kinder to Metroid fans. What do you make of the whole ordeal?
