I posted this on r/smashbros and it was removed immediately for whatever reason, but I put a lot of time into this so I’ll test my luck here.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate is complete! Every Smash character ever returned. The biggest roster yet. The biggest roster we’ll ever have. A celebration of all things gaming! Where do we go from here?
Well what if we went back to our [roots?](https://i.imgur.com/5C7fs8T.jpg) What if instead of celebrating all of gaming, we went back to celebrating what we really love most… Nintendo! Ultimate truly feels like a completion to the series, but something as big as Smash can’t just end. So how about it is rebooted?
It was always slightly (and I mean slightly, please don’t be angry) aggravating to see the uniqueness and complexity with every new character, while the OGs just seemed a little bland and for the most part (again, for the most part) untouched. Yes, this was nice for the familiarity of it, but it also just felt like these movesets were not doing some of these characters the creative justice they deserved. A reboot could change that! Forget familiarity, give DK some barrels to throw, give Link more BOTW weapons, give Mario… some Odyssey stuff idk.
Now I know what everyone is thinking. “Okay reboot, but why just Nintendo?” And guys hear me out! Just… because. I really don’t have an explanation, this is just my personal preference. I mean maybe you could say that this way there would be less legality troubles and more time to create more characters. Maybe it could even decrease development time? Yes we’ll miss Snake and Sonic and even Sora. Hell, we’ll probably even get stuck with more Fire Emblem. But I bet we’d get Waluigi… And personally I’d love to see more Zelda, like Skull Kid or maybe some of the Champions. Or another Pokémon Trainer that uses exclusively Eeveelutions I’ve always thought would be cool. Bandana Dee? Geno I think could pass as 1st party? Yes this idea would really limit the possibilities of newcomers, but while excluding big name 3rd party characters, it really opens the door for some fan favorite smaller 1st party characters.
This may be the most controversial part but… I mean Sakurai is probably sick of working on these games… what if he passes the torch? Don’t get me wrong, Smash is currently arguably my favorite game franchise of all time, and much of that credit has to go to Sakurai. But in the mind set that Ultimate was the conclusion to Smash, it only feels right that someone new takes the helm on a reboot. Who knows what someone else could do with Smash. I mean it’s unlikely, but possible that someone new could even turn it into something… greater.
Thoughts?
TLDR: What if next they reboot Smash as 1st-party-only again
