In both the original and remake versions of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team, there’s a small quest in the post-game that involves a thief stealing TMs from the Kecleon Shop in Pokemon Square. After going through a dungeon, the thief is revealed to be Latios. The story explains why he stole the TMs afterwards, but that’s what I wanted to highlight for this video featuring makeshift rescue teams haha.

For these clears, a rescue team consists of two of the possible starters in PMD RT, plus one obtainable Pokemon at this point of the game – which limits me to Pokemon from Gen 1 to Gen 3 (barring a few legendaries). To simulate the player-partner dynamic from PMD, the two starters I use for these teams also cannot be of the same type.

So, with all that explanation out of the way, here’s how each battle went, and the sync grids used:

Rescue Team 1: Typhlosion / Meganium / Vileplume – https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github.io/#/team-builder/?id1=10002000000&e1=1&o1=738&g1=AAECAwQFBggLDhAREhMVGBocHyIl&s1=5&id2=10112000000&e2=0&o2=750&g2=AAECAwQFBgkKDA0QERITFhkbKA==&s2=5&id3=10008000000&e3=1&o3=738&g3=AAECAwQFBggLDQ4PEBUYIyUnKCk=&s3=3

Typhlosion and Meganium are one of the most reliable cores in the game, with the former taking advantage of the latter’s sun. Eruption is great for this stage for the sidemons, though the constant AOE damage does reduce its damage. Light Screen is also helpful for keeping the team healthy. Vileplume completes the trio as it’s another Pokemon that appreciates the sun, and its bulk is very good for a non-support unit.

Rescue Team 2: EX Grovyle / EX Eevee / Clefairy – https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github.io/#/team-builder/?id1=10118000000&e1=0&o1=750&g1=AAECAwQFERQVFhgaHB4hIiYo&s1=5&id2=10019000000&e2=1&o2=738&g2=AAECAwQFBggJCgsRFBcYGRseIQ==&s2=5&id3=10017000000&e3=0&o3=750&g3=AAECAwQFGhscHyEiJCYpLC4=&s3=5

Grovyle’s back from his Uxie clear months ago (https://youtu.be/wqA42aZNP0k), but this time he isn’t the thief! He’s supported by Eevee, who provides all the bulk that the team needs, and Clefairy, whose Synchro Healing keeps the team healed up. The accuracy buffs also allowed me to forego the accuracy tiles from Grovyle’s grid to get Amped Up instead, since Eevee’s speed buffs take a while to rack up. Eevee’s flinches were also pretty helpful for getting in extra turns.

Rescue Team 3: Strike Egg Cubone / Psyduck / Scyther – https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github.io/#/team-builder/?id1=10045900000&e1=0&o1=750&g1=AAECAwQFExYaHB4hIiQmKSw=&s1=5&id2=18000040501&e2=60&o2=0&g2=&s2=5&id3=10110010000&e3=0&o3=750&g3=AAECAwQFExQXGBklJygrLC0=&s3=5

There really should be more games where Cubone is a starter hahaha. ClubClub steps up as the main damage-dealer for this team, and he’s supported defensively by Psyduck and offensively by Scyther. Both of them have Synchro Healing for all the AOE moves, and Psyduck’s potions and regen are of course much-needed to keep ClubClub going throughout the stage. Leer + Bulldoze is a potent combo for this stage, and ClubClub even gets to show off its good-enough sync nuke haha.
