A sequel to the Rescue Team run I did for the Latios LA a few weeks ago (https://youtu.be/GtnjbcPbvgg), this time it’s Exploration Teams taking on the guardian of Fogbound Lake! This theme is also quite timely since there’s an important PMD Explorers character coming this week that I’m pretty excited about!
Similar to that run, the Exploration Team label here is really just to limit my team compositions – two of the Pokemon have to be starters of PMD Explorers (and they can’t share the same type), while the third can be any Pokemon from Gen 1 to Gen 4 (though I purposely didn’t include legendaries).
All these clears also took longer than I thought they would, so I sped up all three runs to shorten the overall video.
Here’s how each battle went, and the sync grids used:
Team 1: EX Eevee / Raichu / Lickitung – https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github.io/#/team-builder/?id1=18000030301&e1=60&o1=0&g1=&s1=1&id2=10017000000&e2=0&o2=750&g2=AAECAwQFBggLDRocHiEiJCUoLg==&s2=5&id3=10035000001&e3=1&o3=738&g3=AAECAwQFBggLDhAaHB4mKCosLg==&s3=3
The limitation of both the video’s theme and Uxie’s gimmicks really pushed me to go for bulky mons that just so happen to have strong moves. Eevee plays a million roles in this clear, but most importantly he’s the main striker with his Iron Tails. Raichu is the crit buffer, paralyzer, and the main healer with Synchro Healing, while Lickitung is the trapper and defense debuffer. DroolDrool also activates Leaf’s theme skills to give the team a good HP boost.
(I’ve been rolling Vigilance on some of the tech eggmons since I’m excited to use them for Legendary Gauntlet. All those 1-star and 2-star Creamy Cookies I’ve hoarded from the past Battle Villa seasons finally saw some use haha)
Team 2: EX Empoleon / Venusaur / Masquerain – https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github.io/#/team-builder/?id1=10017100000&e1=0&o1=750&g1=AAECAwQFBggLDQ4PFBUWIyQn&s1=3&id2=10099000000&e2=1&o2=738&g2=AAECAwQFBgcKCwwODxwdICMoKi4=&s2=5&id3=10039000000&e3=0&o3=750&g3=AAECAwQFERIVGBwdICMkJyot&s3=3
Empoleon’s gonna have a busy week! He’s the main striker here, as his sync nuke really helps minimize Uxie’s damage – if they manage to crit, that is. Venusaur casts toxic as well as debuffs Sp Def to maximize Empoleon’s damage, while Masquerain traps Uxie and debuffs its Sp Atk to keep the team healthy. I also chose Masquerain to tank since it has the Sp Def self-buffs.
Team 3: EX Charizard / Meganium / Tangela – https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github.io/#/team-builder/?id1=10008000001&e1=0&o1=750&g1=AAECAwQFBggLDQ8QExUbHB4jJScqKy0=&s1=3&id2=10000000000&e2=1&o2=738&g2=AAECAwQFBgcIHB0eHyAiJCUmJygpKw==&s2=3&id3=10002000000&e3=1&o3=738&g3=AAECAwQFBggLDhATGhseHyAi&s3=5
This originally had Typhlosion instead of Charizard, but I wasn’t hitting the damage thresholds I needed to, and Meganium was taking too much damage as a result. As much as I wanted to use the sun duo, Charizard ended up being the better pick since Blast Burn is that good. Meganium sets the sun and buffs the team up, and the teamwide defense buffs are mainly for itself to tank better. Tangela is of course a great pick for this stage overall, and it also appreciates the extra healing from the sun. I also found it useful to only use Toxic on the first half of the third HP bar and save Infestation for the second half so that the damage reduction for the latter isn’t too much.
(I also chose not to mega evolve Charizard here since Mega Charizard X wasn’t in PMD Explorers. But I’m hoping a remake would remedy that soon!)
