Is anyone playing Kharon’s Crypt? It’s a (2D) Zelda-like/Metroidvania, and doesn’t seem to be getting the attention I think it deserves

It’s certainly not without its problems, but it does enough right that I can forgive them, and it just feels really strange to me that nobody seems to be talking about it.

I’m a big Metroidvania and Zelda-like guy and this is a great example of both to my eyes.

I don’t want to spoil too much but there are some interesting item mechanics, along with puzzles that make use of them, the map is wonderfully varied, and the progression puzzles have a good difficulty curve getting fairly challenging but not getting too silly. All in all, there’s nothing new in each individual aspect but for me it all comes together in a way that I haven’t encountered in a while.

As for the less good stuff; so, you probably know that you can possess all normal enemies (a bat can fly, a slime can move through some walls, a rat can fit through rat holes), however, bar one, the half dozen or so humanoid enemies are functionally identical, I would have liked then all to have some kind of unique utility, like for instance there’s a mudman type guy I feel that perhaps he ought to have all the basic humanoid stuff plus the slime’s ability to go through certain walls.

Another mild niggle was having to spend a consumable to save, it never set me back a massive amount but I certainly didn’t save as often as I’d have liked.

That last thing that comes to mind right now is the lack of late-game fast travel. It doesn’t take too long to get all the way from the last floor to the first if you’re so inclined but it’s still a bit of a pain.
