The NSO app on the Switch home screen now has a page for Missions and Rewards

So the unofficial Nintendo status bot on twitter [picked up that the home screen NSO thing was scheduled for maintenance tonight](https://mobile.twitter.com/NinStatusBot/status/1498448009822339072?cxt=HHwWgIDQvdOhx8spAAAA) that got extended twice. Now that it’s finished, there’s a page on that NSO app on the Switch where you can

– earn platinum points by doing weekly missions such as playing a game online, as well as a monthly mission for playing a particular NES game. This month’s game is Super Mario Bros.

– spend platinum points on what appear to be new user profile icons. It says Super Mario Odyssey is this month’s featured game, and there are also Animal Crossing icons for villagers with March birthdays, so it seems this selection will be rotating every month.

Like I said, this seemingly just went live, so I haven’t seen anyone talking about it yet. Seemed kinda odd for this to just get pushed out randomly like this. And to get a bit speculative, it kinda feels like they’re maybe laying some groundwork for a “Nintendo” take on an achievement system for Switch, which could be interesting to see introduced 5 years into the Switch’s life.

e: fwiw, currently New Pokemon Snap is also undergoing maintenance, and both network services and the eshop are [listed on Nintendo’s site](https://www.nintendo.com/consumer/network/en_na/network_status.jsp) as scheduled for maintance in about a week. All of that could absolutely be nothing or just coincidence, but just figured it was worth a mentioning as maybe something to keep an eye on given they’re dropping things without much notice.
