(Since there aren’t any replayable boss battles this week, I recorded this video last week to fill in the gaps.)

I’ve used Thorton a lot since he got his grid in January, with Gauntlet in particular giving him a lot of viability. While that can obviously be attributed to his 60% flinch from Zen Headbutt, he also has several other tools in his kit that expand his utility. I try to explore some of it here.

Here’s how each battle went, and the sync grids used:

Vs. Lorelei: Thorton / Korrina / Cobalion – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=001200044800&s0=5&l0=140&r0=3&p0=0&a0=0&t0=4111&g0=AAECAwQFERQVGBsfISMlJigrLi8&v1=004100043700&s1=5&l1=140&r1=4&p1=0&a1=0&t1=41414&g1=AAECAwQFBggRFRYZHB8jJSkqLQ&v2=900000063800&s2=3&l2=140&r2=5&p2=0&a2=0&t2=44&g2=AAECAwQFBggLDhESExocHiEkJigq

Probably the most obvious distinction between Thorton and other flinchers is Telekinesis, which makes any Pokemon affected by it unable to evade any moves. That makes Lorelei’s Lapras a very good target for it as it completely ignores the stage’s gimmick. Korrina takes advantage of it with her moves, while Cobalion completes the team with its buffs and Defense debuffs.

Vs. Lance: Thorton / Sycamore / Hop – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=013600071600&s0=5&l0=140&r0=5&p0=0&a0=0&t0=41141&g0=AAECAwQFBggJCgsMDQ8TGhscHSYpKy8&v1=004100043700&s1=5&l1=140&r1=4&p1=0&a1=0&t1=41414&g1=AAECAwQFBggRExYZHB8jJSkqLQ&v2=024400088901&s2=5&l2=140&r2=5&p2=0&a2=0&t2=44444&g2=AAECAwQFBggLDRAaHB8iJCYpKw

One of the sidemons in this stage has X Evasion All, which makes Telekinesis invaluable too. I wanted to have a purely F2P team for this video and it ended up being this one, and I think it’s right to have it for Fairy as it’s one of the harder types for F2P clears. Sycamore does a lot of damage for a support thanks to Fairy Power 5, while Hop gives the team defensive buffs so they can tank the stage better. He also activates the type skill with Thorton.

Vs. Agatha: Thorton / Masked Royal / EX Kiawe – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=011700072700&s0=3&l0=140&r0=5&p0=0&a0=0&t0=44111&g0=AAECAwQFBggLDQ4PExQjJScoKw&v1=004100043700&s1=5&l1=140&r1=4&p1=0&a1=0&t1=41414&g1=AAECAwQFBggLDQ4QExUjJSksLQ&v2=014900010501&s2=3&l2=140&r2=5&p2=0&a2=0&t2=44114&g2=AAECAwQFERITFBUWFxgaJSYnKCk

One of the things Zinfogel features in their videos that always leaves me awestruck is when they use redirection to enable Power Reserves. I believe Thorton is the only one whose redirection is unlimited, so I tried to do it here. Sadly I’m nowhere near as good as Zinfogel in implementing this hahaha, but a clear is a clear. Masked Royal has Power Reserves 5 on top of his multitude of multipliers, while Kiawe’s here to provide crit buffs and heals.

Vs. Azelf: Thorton / Strike Scyther / Marley – https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=0&v1=004100043700&s1=5&l1=140&r1=4&p1=0&a1=0&t1=41414&g1=AAECAwQFBggRExYZHB8jJSkqLQ&v2=009700005900&s2=5&l2=140&r2=3&p2=0&a2=0&t2=4111&g2=AAECAwQFERobHSAjJigqKywt

Strike Scyther supremacy! Azelf gets +1 evasion at the third HP bar so Telekinesis puts in work yet again. Legendary Arenas are also where Thorton’s flinch capabilities shine the most. Marley tanks for the team as her slow-ramping buffs are usable for long stages like this, and her Speed buffs are much appreciated.
